He was arrested shortly afterwards.
Police said Nazar Hussain, a resident of Mir Hazaar Gopang village near Rukanpur, had had an argument with his mother, Aasiya Bibi, on Thursday night after she reprimanded him when she found narcotics in his room.
They said at around 4am on Friday, he attacked her and his father with a shovel while they were asleep. Hearing them scream, police said, his sisters Alia and Laila and cousins Zameer Hussain and Fazal Hussain rushed to the room. They said Nazar Hussain hit out at them, too, and on his way out also attacked his grandmother Zuhran Bibi.
Aasiya Bibi died on the spot. The injured were taken to the Rural Health Centre, where Laila died from head injuries.
The rest of the injured were sent to Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, where doctors treating them said that they were all in critical condition having been hit in the head.
