KARACHI:

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has invited the attention of the government to the Indian rice exporters’ strategy of selling Indian basmati rice based on its nutritional value.

It is reported that Indian rice exporters are selling and promoting their brands of basmati rice in important overseas markets indicating on the bags that the basmati rice is good for diabetics and helps in maintaining blood sugar levels.

Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver urged the Pakistani rice exporters to determine the facts, which if found to be true could enable the Pakistani exporters of basmati rice to indicate the advantage on their branded bags to promote their business and improve the rice trade sector.

He called upon the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan to urgently contact the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and confirm the Indian claims.
