LAHORE:

Former law minister Muhammad Basharat Raja on Thursday said poor performance of the previous government was the reason why the country could not achieve UN Millennium Development Goals 2015.

The PML-Q leader said the progress of the country was directly linked with the Punjab’s progress.

In a statement issued here, Basharat said the government had ignored education and health. He said the government had done nothing to eliminate poverty. He said polio and HIV/AIDs were major health risks and the government was not doing enough to address the problem.

He said the prime minister should set up a commission to investigate why the government had failed to meet its millennium targets. He said a comparative study of the performance of the governments of 2002-2007 and 2008-2013 should be done.

Raja said that under Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, the literacy rate in the Punajb had increased by 6 per cent annually.
