ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution urging the government to more effectively control prices of petroleum.

The resolution was moved by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Syed Asif Hasnain and the parliamentary affairs minister Sheikh Aftab Ahmed did not oppose the resolution.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azra Fazal Pechuho moved a resolution asking the government to provide infallible security in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Another resolution adopted by the National Assembly on Thursday was moved by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Munaza Hassan demanding that immediate steps be taking to control the use of fake SIMs.

MQM leaders Sajid Ahmed, Khwaja Sohail Mansoor, Muhammad Salman Khan Baloch and Saman Sultana moved a resolution demanding that government put an end to load shedding.

The resolutions were adopted unanimously.

MNAs call for more attention to agriculture sector

After the resolutions were passed, Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai said Pakistan was an agricultural country but no attention was given to improve the sector. He said that while fruits produced in Balochistan were of great quality, they were not being marketed.

Achakzai also stressed upon the need of building water reservoirs in the province so that the sector could be facilitated.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Ameer Zaman said that Iran and India were providing free electricity and agricultural inputs to farmers but in Pakistan electricity tariffs were proving to be a burden on the farmers.

He urged the government to provide subsidy to the farmers of Balochistan in the same way as being provided to the farmers of other provinces.

Laghari urged the government to provide alternate energy water tube-wells to farmers as electricity tube-wells were not affordable due to high tariffs.
