Misappropriation Of BISP funds: ‘Corrupt’ post office official released

An official of Athmuqam Post Office was arrested with Rs0.5 million of BISP funds and 130 NICs

MUZAFFARABAD: An official of Athmuqam Post Office was arrested with Rs0.5 million of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) funds and 130  National Identity Cards (NICs) on Wednesday. According to details, Pakistan Post Office Branch Postmaster Raja Maqsood was not paying the monthly BISP dues to poor families of Nagder village in Neelum Valley for the last two months. Villagers had approached the local police who then arrested Maqsood from a house near Keran and recovered 300 BISP forms and 300  photocopies of NICs BISP beneficiaries from his possession. Residents of Nagder village accused Maqsood of taking Rs200 to 300 as bribes from each BISP account holder, the police said. Later, police released the accused on the condition that he will not cheat the people of Neelum Valley and carry out his duty in a fair manner.
