With gang rapes at their highest in India and celebrities taking charge going out of their way to create awareness and debate the issue, actor Kalki Koechlin, too, has made a rather innovative effort.
The unconventional actor shot a video titled, It’s Your Fault, that gives a satirical take on the stereotypical mindset prevalent in the country – the sexually assaulted victim is to be blamed.
The video has gone viral garnering extensive attention from foreign media, reported the Times of India. It also features VJ Juhi Pandey and is made by All India Bak***d (AIB), a group of four stand-up comedians. The clip shows the two women constantly telling women through various ways that it’s your fault. It suggests rather sarcastically that rape survivors should have dressed appropriately or called their rapist ‘bhaiyya’ (brother) to avoid the crime.
Initially, Kalki was hesitant because of the workload but “when Bhat sent the script, I changed my mind,” she said, reported the Hindustan Times. “It was so funny, clever and relevant to what’s happening that I immediately agreed.”
The video has created quite an overwhelming buzz with people asking the creators to dub it in different languages for a wider reach.

@Saad: Mullah bhai, do you read the news on this site at all?
@indi: Do you have any facts to back that up, Mr Indian? or you are just making it by yourself
Glad that more awareness is being created via media . These sorts of debates that address "the blame the victim mentality" will definately bring more awareness. However our media also needs to do some soul searching here. Objectification of women in bollywood/ lollywood should be stopped now. West learnt that quite some time back, now its our turn. The idea that it is ok to think women as objects and pleasure tools for men should be immediately stopped in our media. And while its not a major/direct contributor towards sexual crimes but never the less its about time each sector owes upto ist mistakes.
gang rapes are also at its highest in pakistan with no awareness and no one to fight....
