Targeted attack: ANP, peace committee leader killed in Buner

According to police Anwar had been receiving threats for a while.

Awami National Party (ANP) leader Anwar Khan was killed on Sunday when unidentified militants opened fire at him in Balo Khan, Buner district.


Wakeel Khan, an official of Pir Baba police, told journalists the incident occurred at around 7:00am. Wakeel said the politician’s son Israr Khan filed a report with the police stating that his father was on his way to Pir Baba Bazaar from Balo Khan village when the attack took place, leaving his father severely injured.

Anwar was then taken to Daggar Headquarters Hospital where he died after two hours. Anwar, the head of peace committee in Gadizai tehsil, had been receiving threats for a while, the police official said.
