Arrests and attacks: As operation continues, MQM office comes under attack

KARACHI:
A homemade cracker bomb was lobbed at the unit office of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in Orangi Town on Sunday.
The bomb was hurled by unknown men at the MQM’s unit office 121-B next to Union Council No. 6 at Gulshan-e-Bihar.
SHO Mohammad Bashir said that at least two armed men were behind the attack, adding that no casualty was reported since the offices were closed.
The officer ruled out the possibility of Tehreek-e-Taliban’s involvement as the initial investigation suggested that local criminal elements were trying to create panic. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
Raids alert
Around 27 suspects were held during the targeted raids conducted by Rangers in parts of the city. The suspects were found in possession of weapons, said the Rangers’ spokesperson.
The police caught around 134 suspects in 84 targeted raids and nine encounters. The arrested include 55 absconders, 24 under arms ordinance, 16 under narcotics ordinance, 11 robbers, three kidnappers and one extortionist. At least 44 weapons, five grenades and narcotics were also found, said the police’s spokesperson.
Grenade bag found
The Bomb Disposal Squad detonated hand grenades found in a bag lying near the residential society of the Aga Khani community in Metroville, SITE on Saturday night.
The police officials suspected that the culprits might have thrown the bag containing hand grenades to avoid arrest during the ongoing targeted operations in Karachi.
