Bling ring: 5 people arrested for kidnapping for ransom

The gang included young lawyers, a policeman and an SHO’s son.

Five people accused of kidnapping for ransom were arrested on Saturday.


Mohsin Waqar, a resident of Tatlay Aali, had reported his brother Ahsan Waqar’s abduction on September 13. Waqar said the kidnappers were asking for Rs1.7 million ransom.

DPO Raja Riffat Mukhtar formed a team led by SP Khurram Jan to arrest the suspects. Police traced the victim’s calls to a woman, Shiza.

On Saturday afternoon, they made several raids and arrested five people. Police said the gang comprised of young lawyers, a policeman and the son of an SHO.

They indentified Adeel Akber, 25, as leader of the gang. Police said Adeel’s wife Shiza, 22, used to befriend boys from using popular social networking site Facebook.



Police said she would invite the victims to meet her. When they arrived, Aimanabad Head Constable Muhammad Amir, Umer Nadeem, whose father is an SHO and lawyers Daud and Adeel would kidnap them for ransom.

Police said the gang members had confessed to kidnapping Ahmed Raza and Amir Sohail for Rs1million each in a similar fashion over the last two months.

‘Pir’ arrested for rape, blackmail

Police on Friday arrested a man for raping at least 10 women and blackmailing them in Multan. New Multan SHO Abdus Sattar Niazi told the media that the accused, Ehsan from Hasanabad Colony, had confessed to raping women who could not get pregnant.

He said the police had seized over a dozen videos of women Ehsan was blackmailing.



*Ammara Bibi, 28, a resident of New Multan Colony, told police that she had visited Ehsan after she could not get pregnant with her husband.

Ammara said that the ‘pir’ had started by placing placed a taweez on her and filming it. “Later he raped me.”

“I told my father about it,” she said. Police said *Mushtaq, a resident of Jahanian, who took his sister to the ‘pir’, had told them that Ehsan had been threatening the women with making public the videos if they did not pay him every month. He said sometimes Ehsan demanded jewellery and money. Police said Ehsan had confessed that he was no spiritual healer.
