Higher studies: South Korea offers scholarships

Korean Ambassador lauded efforts of the NUML for promoting Korean language in the country.

Korean Ambassador Dr Song Jong-hwan said has that the Korean government will provide scholarships to Pakistani students interested in learning Korean language at the higher level.


“The Pakistani students will go to Korea to take such courses,” he said.

He said this while inaugurating the “Korean Corner” at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Friday.

The corner would work for the promotion of Korean language and culture besides facilitating those seeking information about business and study opportunities in Korea.

“Pakistan and Korea are friends and cooperation between them has grown over the years. Korea is providing $200 million in economic assistance to Pakistan yearly,” said the ambassador.

He said that Korean companies were taking keen interest in investing in Pakistan and Korean investors would be able to set up industrial units in economic zones being established by the Pakistani government in different areas.

He lauded efforts of the NUML for promoting Korean language in the country saying a good number of students were learning Korean language in the Korean Department of the university.

Rector NUML Maj Gen (retd) Masood Hasan assured the ambassador that the corner would be fully utilised for the objectives it has been established for.

MD Overseas Employment Corporation Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, Korean embassy officials, Registrar NUML Brig (retd) Saeed Akhtar Malik, teachers, Head of Korean Language Department Dr Atif Faraz and others attended the inauguration ceremony.
