Ayaz had been in police custody since then and had appeared before the court regularly for the hearings.
The rape took place inside Ayaz’s house in the Sher Shah area of the city.
The culprit had reportedly lured the little girl into entering his house by offering her candy.
The court verdict comes at a time when the nation has been swept by grief and anger following the ghastly ‘gang rape’ of a five-year-old girl in the Mughalpura neighbourhood of Lahore.

a death sentence should have been the answer for raping a minor. this is PREPOSTEROUS.
From hearsay and observation of behaviour in rural Punjab, exerting pressure to extract sex (rape) of a brother's wife, a step sister or step daughter or wife's sister is considered distasteful but not punishable with anything as drastic as execution. I suspect rural Sind is no different. Low income urban communities also have a high tolerance for violence and incest. Gang rape is a particularly rural low income activity. Until the cultural status of women is raised and the ethos of calling them nakis ul aql and depriving them of inheritance and independence is destroyed crimes against women will remain commonplace and unreported. Third World Muslim countries (no alcohol, lewd behaviour discouraged) like Bangladesh and Indonesia which are peacable have a low incidence of rape but this not true universally.
Moderator, why did you censor my post about using chemical castration on this individual ? It is used for sexual predators in the West. Even the PMA (yes Pakistan Military Academy) give an injection to all new cadets so that they cannot perform sexually for upto a year. I will bet you didn't know that. Be mature when reviewing posts. Haaaah, Sad. Another child rape in Pakistan. This rapist should be banged and hanged( or vice versa) till death, so that other don't even try to think of it. Courts should start making some strategic decisions which can atleast change the thinking of such predator by inculcating a fear of punishment in their mind.

Ten years is very less. The rapist genitals should be cut off be punished for atleast 25 plus years. All this 25 years the cut off genitals would remind of his wrongdoings.

Just ten yrs. it should be 100 yrs of solitary confinement or till he dies which ever come first. Other wise he will commit same crime again.
The sentence is a victory for rule of law. Death for rape is not a good idea because the rapist has nothing to lose and eerything to gain by murdering the victim. The very reasonableness of the sentence is a slightly hopeful indicator that the sentence might survive. I am doubtful that the sentence will not be overturned by apellate Sharia courts which function under parallel so called sharia laws that discourage rape conviction but if convicted, encourage that victims be subjected to bribery and harrasment to "forgive".
The sentence has been awarded as per the law. For the first time i read a news where the rapist has been punished by the court. A good move in the right direction otherwise no rapist has ever been punished. majority of comments are lamenting on 10 year's sentence. Then why not press the government / legislators to amend the law to increase the imprisonment ?

!0 years is not enough for raping children or even grown ups, the laws has to be amended to increase mandatory sentence of at least 40years with out any parole.

Ten years behind bars is a reasonable sentence, provided he castrated. Justice would be done on the rule of an eye for an eye ..He should live with the same trauma that the girl will live with for the rest of her life. That is if she is not killed to redeem honor by her father, brothers, uncles, cousins brothers etc ..
The penalties should be much harsher for rapists overall, but especially for those who target little girls (or boys). Society needs to be rid of such inhuman scum. It's horrific enough to force the trauma of rape on any woman, regardless of age or any other factor. But those who would commit such an atrocity against a defenceless child? I'm all for the death penalty on this one. And for those who think the death penalty is not the answer, or is somehow inhumane, I'd say: a. society needs to know there are repercussions to such crimes and b. anyone who is guilty of committing such crimes forfeits the right to any humane treatment.
Same should go for those monsters who hurl acid at women. In both cases, if you act in a manner that completely destroys the life of another, leaving them as good as dead, nothing less than death should suffice as a punishment for you.

i think comments against the court are unfair .... courts can only give punishments that are allowed by the constitution so it is upto the parliamentarians to change that but if i am not wrong PPP had frozen all the death penalties during their term in office

There should be DEATH PENALTY for rapists specially for rapists of children. This 10 year sentence would be further reduced time to time and this rapist would again be free in a couple of years so what's the use of such "punishments"
