Islami Jamiat Talba, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, is harbouring militants in the Punjab University hostels, Dr Mujahid Kamran, the university’s vice chancellor, said on Tuesday.
“Illegal occupants were living in PU hostels,” Dr Kamran said, accepting his failure to keep the hostels free of elements involved in militant activities.
Recently, intelligence agencies have arrested a suspect believed to be an associate of al Qaeda from the PU hostel.
He did not answer media queries why the university administration had not taken action against the illegal occupants, but said a police operation could be launched to dislodge such elements from the hostels.
However, Jamiat has refuted the claim. IJT Punjab southern nazim Rai Haq Nawaz and IJT nazim of PU Abdul Muqeet accused the VC of “trying to defame Jamiat” to hide his own inefficiency.
“IJT has no connection with any banned organisation. The university administration is shifting the blame on the IJT to save its own skin,” Haq Nawaz said. “The VC has hired a personal militia for his protection but there are no guards for the hostels,” Muqeet said.
The administration and hostel wardens give refuge to illegal residents at the hostels and then use the name of IJT, the office bearers said.

@Salman Ahmed: "This has been a serious failure of the Punjab government over the past few years.A blind eye was turned towards their activities to ensure that they did not cause problems in Punjab. This is what everyone had been saying for the past 5 years but the PMLN friendly press had been ignoring it". Agree with you. Friendly press especially Express Tribune does not add even comments against PMLN.
Several RED STAR operation is urgently needed in Pakistan . But attempts are being done to avoid blood shed , The effect of proposed peace talk is before us . TTP is projecting herself victorious and wants to enter in the national assembly to rule the country through their constitution ie Shariya . THUS A TOTAL WAR IS IN WAITING IN PAKISTAN BETWEEN TTP SUPPORTERS AND THOSE WHO WANTS A PAKISTAN TO BE GOVERNED BY THE EXISTING CONSTITUTION !!
Jamaat itself is pro Taliban, extremist and terrorist. It is so-called democrat.
Now they know it ??
was VC sleeping all these years ?
IJT is a malignant tumor attached to most government universities, killing education and freedom of expression. The earlier it is removed, the better.
Ahhh!!!!! ..... dat reminds me of the days in late nineties at the time of making a decision for an MBA from PU or QAU and i didn't even apply to PU solely because of this menace we call IJT. Horror stories of their grip on PU & its hostels, coercing the students to restrict their comunications to their own gender, physiccal torture to stuents not abiding by THEIR rules, by force entry of IJT supported lecturers in the faculties & then their own involvements in all kind of ills in the hostels ...... apparently things haven't changed & PU still remains under the rule of this "iron hand" for so many years ...... just imagine such a big university's environment kept like a 'Madrassa' ...... so unfortunate
I remember there once was a huge operation launched to cleanse the hostels but the political backing of JI to IJT and the soft attitude of punjab government over all these years has lead us into this position .....
@hairaan: Not only ban but also punish its leadership.
Even though i do not like the Jamiat... I find this accusation the most bizarre one ever............ no doubt about the fact that VC here is misguiding the people and trying to hide his own inefficiency............. the PMLN and University administration have long tried to remove the Jamiat from PU; failing always!! this time around, though, they're trying to hit them as hard as they can....................... I do not believe they'd be successful even then!
Every VC have tried his best to maligning IJT, but failed each time. Punjab University is stronghold of Jamiat and Inshallah it will be so in future as well. AMEEN
Zinda hai Jamiat Zinda hai.
Don't know why Pakistan doesn't follow the example of Bangladesh and ban JI completely
All political and religious unions should be banned in educational institutions....Mr. VC if you accept failure then kindly you should put forward your resignation.
The use of sophisticated weapons by IJT, APMSO, PSO or any other student organization in Govt. universities and hostels al over Pakistan is not a hidden fact. Everybody knows it. IJT also have links with Jahadi outfits of Kashmir and Afghanistan, no govt have ever dared to stop them from these illicit activities
it is a crystal clear IJT has hijackd islam long ago and exploiting the religious sentiments to the fullest. They need to be banned completely
This has been a serious failure of the Punjab government over the past few years.
A blind eye was turned towards their activities to ensure that they did not cause problems in Punjab.
This is what everyone had been saying for the past 5 years but the PMLN friendly press had been ignoring it.
Rana Sanaullah and Shahbaz Sharif should be held accountable.
Everyone knew that IJT is rouge organization, working for their own benefits in the University, focusing on extremism within the campus and making it difficult to study for serious students, yet government is not taking any action.
