OPD boycott: Doctors association rejects Yousafzai’s announcements

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) rejected the announcement of Health Minister Shaukat Yousafzai of approving service structures for doctors. PDA reiterated their resolve to continue boycotting the outpatient departments (OPD) and surgeries in the three tertiary public sector hospitals until their demands are met.
Addressing a press conference at the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), PDA President Dr Abdul Qadir and Chairman Dr Shah Sawar said the minister’s announcement was aimed at dividing the doctors and vowed to not call off the strike.
Qadir alleged the health department is not serious in addressing the problems faced by doctors. He warned of extending the strike to the Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH) Abbottabad within three days. “We will extend our strike to the district headquarters hospitals in 24 districts of the province if our demands are not entertained,” he threatened.
The PDA also demanded the removal of Yousafzai and asked the government to honour its commitment by appointing a ‘competent’ and dedicated person.
