Tunnelling through the Margallas

Letter September 16, 2013
Such a project could quickly turn into a scam like the new Islamabad Airport.

ISLAMABAD: This refers to the story “Tunnelling through the Margallas” (September 15). The federal government plans to build a new Islamabad city across the Margalla Hills and link the old and new Islamabad through a road tunnel .The project cost is estimated at $12 billion.

This is a serious issue and the government should conduct a detailed study before launching it. Such a project could quickly turn into a scam like the new Islamabad Airport. The other point to be taken into account should be the environmental hazard that may be caused by the huge construction as it would deeply affect the capital city’s landscape.
