PESHAWAR: Frontier Region (FR) Peshawar’s Agency Surgeon Dr Mujahid Hussain was kidnapped along with his cousin from Hayatabad late Saturday night.

Police found his pickup truck abandoned in a nullah in Hayatabad Phase II. According to the police, Dr Mujahid and his cousin Shoaib Nabi left their house in Hayatabad around 8pm on Saturday night and did not return.

“They were in their official vehicle and when they did not come back, the family informed us. After nearly an hour-long search we found their vehicle in a nullah,” said a police officer.

Iftikhar Hussain, the missing doctor’s brother, told The Express Tribune Dr Hussain did not have any enemies. “I do not think the kidnapping has anything to do with sectarianism. My brother is not even a high-profile person.”

Iftikhar speculated Dr Hussain could have been confused with Dr Syed Mujahid Hussain, brother of late Dr Riaz Hussain who hailed from a political family in Kurram Agency and was gunned down in an incident of target killing in Dabgari Gardens, Peshawar in January.

“This is just an ordinary kidnapping for ransom in my opinion,” he insisted.

Dr Hussain hailed from Kurram Agency and was serving as the agency surgeon of FR Peshawar. Earlier, he served as the medical superintendent of Hayatabad Medical Complex.
