AUAC stance: ‘US must start direct talks with Taliban’

Maulana Abdul Aziz Kakar says US, NATO forces should give an exact timeframe of withdrawal from Afghanistan.

QUETTA: The leader of Afghan Ulema Advisory Council (AUAC), Maulana Abdul Aziz Kakar has said the US and Nato forces should give an exact timeframe of withdrawal from Afghanistan and apologise to Afghan nation for the years of atrocities. “For restoring peace, the Taliban, Afghan resistance fighters and Ulema should be allowed to take part in politics,” Kakar said addressing a press conference. He claimed that India had set up camps in Afghanistan to create lawlessness in Pakistan. Kakar said that through a conspiracy the new Afghan generation was being pitched against and Pakistan so that relations between the two countries remain tense. Moreover, he said, the US was supporting Mujahideen-e-Khalq (MEK) against Iran. MEK is an Iranian secular party opposed to the government of the clergy in Iran. Kakar hinted at areas of Balochistan bordering Iran being used by MEK.
