I wrote this a few months ago, arguing that Modi had no reason to expose himself. The support of the ordinary Bharatiya Janata Party worker was already with him. And, after his appointment as campaign head, in the eventuality of a Bharatiya Janata Party victory, he would be the obvious candidate. There was nobody else in the party who has the sort of pan-national appeal Modi has, particularly in the middle class.
Given this situation, to put himself out as the candidate would mean having to carry the burden of a party that he wasn’t fully in control of (as LK Advani’s sulk demonstrates).
It made more sense for him to bide his time and wait for the results to come in before showing his hand.
That was my logic.
Modi has chosen to do the brave thing. He will approach Indians and ask for votes on the basis of his performance in Gujarat and his ideology, which he has crystallised and not kept hidden to those who have observed him. For this, he must be applauded.
He will also have to take on the task of mollifying former and prospective allies who have fled the National Democratic Alliance in fear of him. These are many, and the new arrangement with them will take time. And then he will need to work hard to bring onside those in his own party — leader of the opposition Sushma Swaraj, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to name two — who did not want this sort of promotion for Modi.
Today, Modi holds three important positions. He remains Gujarat’s chief minister, is the BJP’s campaign committee chairman and, now, in effect the leader of the NDA. Advani, whose only official job is to manage the BJP’s coalition, stands eclipsed.
The BJP’s one-man one-post rule, which was bent when Modi was made campaign chairman, is now broken.
Advani can complain about this, but there is also the fact that Modi is offering to deliver on all of these and that is enough for his party. Certainly it is not a problem for the cadre of the party which has elevated Modi.
The Congress has a tough, tough campaign on its hands. India has not seen the likes of what it will soon witness: a modern approach to electoral messaging and to voter mobilisation.
Gujarat saw glimpses of it last year and we are familiar with some of the things tried, including holographic images. Now, assuming the election will be sometime in the second quarter of next year, Modi has time on his side. We will soon have news that he has raised the resources to deploy his modern campaign on a national scale.
Modi’s great strength is execution and implementation. In this he has no equal in politics. He has executed everything he has touched, from Advani’s Rath Yatra a quarter century ago to the three elections he has won in Gujarat.
He will throw himself at the details. One of his immediate tasks would be to look at such things as how to bring in rebels in states like Karnataka and ensure the BJP vote is not fragmented.
His drive and energy will be of an intensity that the Congress will not be able to match.
All of this may be dismissed by Sonia Gandhi’s chamchas as smoke and mirrors, but the media will be interested and the pressure will build.
A campaign fought on the strength of a man’s personality will not change the dynamic of what will be,as always, a caste-based Indian election. Region, language and community will always be larger issues here than either communalism or development.
Modi cannot change that, in my opinion, but I’ve been wrong about him before.

Dear all, Watch the speech given by modi in India tv forum... Link pasted http://blog.socialwavelength.com/2013/03/narendra-modi-at-the-india-today-conclave-2013-social-media-lessons-for-brands-and-politicians-alike/
Pls. Understnd first of allwhatmen is thinking and things he has implemented in a state.... And think for your self has any person in indian politics has this kind of positive, engaging model for development growth....
It will be shame if power again goes to congress especially now when they have no direction at all they will not take to country anywhere... Remember the had almost majority in parliament and they just looted the country shamelessly....
India and the 'Hitler particle': Conclusion - That guy Modi:
http://nachik.blogspot.in/2013/10/india-and-hitler-particle-conclusion.html
BJP is the only solution for India. Congress regime is a curse for India.
@Rakib:
Thanks for your response (trying again, even though the Mod didn't allow me to do that in my earlier attempt, very strange.).
@Raj - USA:
"@Lala Gee: I am not going to debate...... I will not talk........ I am not going to debate.............. I will not talk.........................."
Com'n buddy. "Happy Hours" are over. Too much repetition is really boring. Isn't it.
@Gaga Lee:
Appreciate your volunteer service of language coaching, unpaid though. The subtle difference between the two is of the level of "certainty".
@Lala Gee
“To get power, you need to display absolute pettiness, and to exercise power, you need to show true greatness. Such pettiness and such greatness are rarely found in one person.” Congratulation! Very impressive quote, I must say. I am glad that you read stuff other than Junagadh, Goa, Hyderabad, Kashmir and Alaska. Now coming to your main point, NaMo’s likely failure to become a great statesman will not be the first of its kind, even in the sub-continent. A generation ago there was another man who displayed absolute pettiness, just as prescribed by Napoleon, got the power; but while exercising it, among other acts of pettiness, told the East Pakistanis to accept Urdu, or get lost. Sad, that he couldn’t see the 2nd country he fathered (by default). But I agree with you, that NaMo will fail. In my view, he is an evil. I think he is a reincarnation of Jinnah disguised as a hindu. P.S. No one does ‘interpolate’ into the future. The correct word is ‘extrapolate’. No blaming the ‘auto suggest’ this time, please.

I have toured across India on business and on personal visits. I have met youth at many universities.
One thing I noticed is that: there is a strong anti-congress wave building across India. The disenchantment with the dynasty is similar to what Indians experienced during 1977. This time it is palpable, the anti-Congress feeling is sweeping across all sections, including Muslims. His rally at Rewari, Haryana had more than 5 lakh people.
Congress government has told TV channels not to give coverage, but, they are now helpless. If they don't show the mammoth response he is getting, all channels will go out of business.
He is clean, and the only CM in India with an incorruptible image. Imagine such a man handling sensitive files of Swiss bank account holders !
That is why the english media and their influential friends in Delhi are scared of Modi coming to power, because, he will stop their rozi-roti. Intellectuals who badmouth India while earning a living on government patronage (think tankers like Dileep Padgaonkar, Harsh Mander etc.) are justifiably feeling insecure and have now resorted to all sorts of vilification campaign. (You know something, you never see a poor intellectual in India. They are frequent fliers and own substantial real estate in prime locations. )
Modi becoming PM is a certainty. And Muslims, who are fed up of the Congress machinations, are going to be the drivers of this change in the coming days.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: India never attacked Pakistan in the past and never will. It is for Pakistan to decide whether it needs friendship or war with India. People like yourself lose any little credibility you have when you throw stats like 1 lakh Kashmiris died over last 10 years. You know that translates to on an average 30 kashmiris killed everyday by Indian forces. The Kashmir Human rights said the death toll in 2011 was 200+ people out of which 50+ are civilians and 150+ so called terrorists and remaining security personnel. Contrast this with the Balochistan number for 2011 as given by Human Rights watchdog. 700+ people killed out of which 500+ were civilians, 100+ Pakistan security forces and about 50 were terrorists. Obviously the civilian to terrorists ratio of casualty is much higher in Balochistan as compared to Kashmir. If you think India is in serious trouble for it's atrocities, Balochistan has bigger problem. Please take care of your home first.
@observer
“If those involved in Direct Action could become Governor General and Prime Minister in one country, why not Narendra Modi in another?” If your comment is to get even with Pakistani posters like @Lala Gee, @Sane etc. I am with you. But on a serious note, this guy Modi is a pure evil. He is a Hindu Jinnah in the making. Hence, I don't find one reason for Pakistanis to criticise him, or his party BJP for choosing him as their PM candidate.
I am not a fan of Modi but in all likelihood will vote for him unless he makes any mis-step between now and the election. . If there is anyone who scares me more than Modi, it is Rahul Gandhi, If there is something that will make me vote for Modi, it is the thought of voting for the same bunch of incompetents. I may be older to Aakar and I can never forget the politics of the 80s when there was no viable opposition and I had to vote for the same bunch of nincompoops because there was no alternative. Not any more. . Looking at the comments here and on other forums frequented by Indians, I am surprised there aren't that many keyboard warriors extolling him. Even Modi supporters such as gp65 and a few others are surprisingly civil and factual. In my mind, this is a good omen for Modi as winning keyboard wars rarely translates to votes on the ground. The elections will be fought in the cities and villages of India, the vast majority of whom do not have access to the Internet. . @Californian Desi: Buddy, he lives in Manhattan, Kansas, a town with a population of around 52,000. . @Viki Raghuvanshi (@Lohana1983): US generally provides visas to any one visiting the UN. Anyway, I wonder what the fuss is all about. When did the US DHS become higher than our Supreme Court that they can decide the innocence or guilt of any individual?
pakistan public need dream of good life,,,happy family and good enlightenment
@Californian Desi: Bravo, my friend! God knows how many Indians read Aakabhai back in India, may be a paltry few, but he can survive in Pakistan ONLY IF HE SPEWS ANTI-INDIAN RHETORIC! One can write all one's anti-Indian views in Indian columns, but when he/she writes for a foreign newspaper, one should only write good achievements of his/her motherland. That is the principle I follow when I write in Jakarta Post!
Please stop impersonating other monikers.
@Lala Gee
Please ignore this fake Gaga Lee, who seems to be a Modi supporter. I am against your pathelogical hatred against India and against Hindus, but I am no fan of Modi. In fact I am not sure who I hate more between Modi and Jinnah. .
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks:
"............Island of Goa" !!!!!!!!!
Is there a need to read any of the rest ??????????
@Lala Gee: @naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: I am not going to debate if 100,000 Kashmiris were killed / raped by Indian forces or by terrorists who infiltrated from Pakistan, many of whom regularly have temporary marriage according to Islamic laws, nor am I going to debate on the 3 million Bangladeshis killed and raped by Pakistan army and Jamaat, nor am I going to debate on the nearly 1 million Afghans killed by talibans sent by Pakistan, or hundred of thousands of Mohajirs, Hazaras, Shias, Christians, Ahmedis, Baloch, and even Pakistan's army killed by Pakistan's army and forces backed by it, or even of the hundreds of thousands of hindu girls raped for religion in Pakistan. I will not talk even of Pakistan sponsoring terrorism in Iran by sponsoring and supporting Jandulla bases in Pakistan or Ahmadinejad warning Pakistan several times on this. I would not talk of Chuck Hagel, even when Karzai, Hilary Clinton and Dana Rohrabacher and many others were saying on Pakistan sheltering terrorists. Importantly I would not talk of President' Clinton issuing a stern warning to Pakistanis by addressing them directly on Pakistan's TV channels during his visit to Pakistan. Pakistani's talk of muslims throughout the world when they slaughter Shias in Pakistan regularly though Shias make up for nearly 25% of their population. It is not an issue at all when it comes to killing christians and ahmedis or raping hindu girls because they are "Wajib e Qtal" anyway. India is never going to attack Pakistan and no Indian wants it. They would not think on this even once, not to speak of a thousand times. However, it is beats any logic when Pakistan is claiming that India is attacking Pakistan thousand times a day through TTP.
However, I liked Lala Gee's comment as to what Napoleon once said, a long time ago. Two years ago, I watched Pakistani movie "Kudha Ke Liye". The Pakistani boy studying in USA is boasting to his American college mate about Pakistan. The American girl says that she admires Taj Maha. The Pakistani boy says proudly "We built it". The bewildered American girls asks him him very honestly: "Why? Why do you built it in India?" This sums the Pakistani thinking and the way rest of the world sees it. These are the problems they bring on themselves whey trying to pretend they speak for muslims all around the world which totally defies the reality that not even one muslim country in the world today consider Pakistan's as muslims even, let alone allowing them to speak for muslims of their country. The fact is that Indians (both muslims and non-muslims) have visa preferences over Pakistanis even in any muslim country.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Your paranoia knows no bound. Even living in Manhattan where Indians and Pakistani live in peace and harmony has not helped fixing your skewed thinking, has it ? Just to help you increase your general knowledge, you should know this that India is still "Akund Bharat" it was never tagged as "Akund Hindustan". Racist people like yourself likes to label every community or group of people with a highlight of religion as it is obvious in your comment above. FYI....India is still "Akund" while Pakistan is broke in half since its inception and very likely you are going to loose Balochistan. Yes the world body should investigate Kashmir AND Balochistan too. Let the truth be out.
Dear Akar Patel, you have been wrong about everything you have written. Simply because you write to appease a mass and not by following the ethics of un-biased, neutral and well researched journalism. You write your personal opinion and not what is factual. So, it's good to see you accept your mistake, but dude you have been wrong all along.
@Raj - USA: Sulking faces of Pakistanis: that would be understandable because Modi masterminded the killing of Muslims. Pakistanis begging for a Modi visit: in your dreams.
@ak: It looks like you are referring to the congress performance in the last 10 years. The growth story is not real. There is enormous environmental damage, impoverishment of the displaced peoples, astounding corruption and mismanagement of finance all with no long term vision who survived with the support of families like Karunanidhi's to make the Sonia family rich! Even today the growth story if you discount the actual costs will be Pyrrhic. One can only hope that just as in Gujarat today there will far less corruption which the country can ill afford; and an end to the paralysis in Delhi
@Raj - USA: The venom spewing by Indians towards the Pakistanis never stops but I would like to remind the Indians that there will never ever be a Akund Hindustan again and India will never dare to attack Pakistan again like it did in 1971 and these are the facts. Personally, I could not care less if the PM of India ever visit Pakistan, I would rather have him to look into the atrocities being committed by the Indian security services. Indians has killed close to 100,000 Kashmiris in the last 10 years and let us not forget the rapes by these security forces. I ask why not let the world media go there and find out the truth, even India's newly found friends in the US are saying the same very thing in the Congress. ie: Chuck Hagel, Defense Secretary of US. You people can't stand it because Pakistan has developed it's security to the extent that India has to think thousand time to attack, it is not going to be the Island of Goa.
No matter how efficient is modi and how much development he has done.He do not deserve to be a prime minister of secular india. Person,who discriminate because of somebody's religion and sponsor or encourages crimes against the person of different religion has no place in modern india. His crimes during Godhara riots are heinous.Many IAS and IPS officers have come out against him. Finally, i hope better sense will prevail and modi's ideology will be defeated once for all.
Dear Brother Aakar Patel,
I may have differed with you on many occasions and shared my comments. But I agree with you here. Keep sharing your honest thoughts with us. If you can share more insights into Gujarat's progress on ground, it will great.
Thanks for your rather sober article on Shri Narendrabhai Modi.
T S Jaykumar
@Lala Gee: You wondered :-".. Well, NaMo has proved his exceptional quality of the first part, without doubt or parallel, we will see how he performs regarding the second part of the quote related with exercising power, the real test of a true statesman’s character, if he ever becomes India’s Prime Minister...." Look no further. You have a possible response in the words of @Raj-USA:-".. Personally, I would like to see the sulking face of Pakistanis when Modi becomes the PM of India and begging Modi to visit Pakistan. Modi of course will be gracious and pardon the Pakistanis and grace them with a visit which may be more like President Clinton’s visit to Pakistan...."
Such be the followers what kind must be the leader!? Move over "Ugly American". Time to recognise the "Ugly Indian".
One thing is for sure.. This Election will see a great change in Modi for the Good...irrespective of whether he wins or Lose..
Looks like Narendrabhai has successfully 'converted' Aakarbhai! Not a small achievement!
NaMo will make a great PM & will actually end up improving Indo-Pakistan relations beyond recognition simply by his honest & straight-forward approach to every issue on hand! Jai Ho, NaMo!!
@MSS: If Modi becomes PM of India, USA will hav to acknowledge and work with him. They have to let Ahmedinejad come to address UN gen Assembly despite having no official diplomatic ties with Iran. USA needs India to counter growing Chinese influence. If US govt could work with Hosni Mubarak, and the Monarchs of Arab countries what is wrong with Modi? LeJ and LeT are both protected and patronised by Mr Sharif's party. So will USA refuse to give him visa? This is nothing but mere posturing due to pressure from Evangelist groups blocked from converting tribals and poor people in Gujarat. And Regarding Ishrat Jahan, even the IB Chief who is a Muslim stated clearly that she was a terrorist. UPA govt led by Cong had submitted sworn affidavit stating she was a terrorist. This sudden change in stance of Cong is hypocrisy and votebank politics, nothing else.
@Parvez: More like dynasty-fatigue!
There is a chilling line in one of the "Game of Thrones" books, attributed to the character called Varys, describing an ambitious character called Littlefinger:
'He would see the realm burn, if he could be King of the ashes.'
I think this one line describes Narendra Modi best.
@Lala Gee: You started your argument really well and I was impressed. But the latter part really spoiled it. To quote "if the past record is any predictor...he won’t be able to perform on any front.." ; for a man to be democratically elected as the Chief Minister of a state three times in succession on the only agenda of development, is no easy task. Maybe, the majority of the voters were smoking weeds! Also, it would do good to your argument, if you brush up the data on the strides that the state of Gujarat has made under his leadership.
@ MSS ....the issue of US visa to Modi is one of the most funniest and lame gimmick.....its like you telling me you wont invite me to your home even though i have not asked for it.....in fact, US itself is in a fix on this issue ........Modi has never applied for US visa after he was denied post-2002.....but this issue was raised time and again....as a matter of fact, US office has never said it will not issue visa...but it always says that application will be considered as per laws....all this blabbering actually sounds like US is pleading Modi to submit a visa application so that this issue is sorted out before 2014.....US is desperate to resolve this issue before Modi is elevated to PM post so as to avoid any awkward and uncomfortable situation...but Modi is not applying for Visa and US can not grant one without formal application.....US leadership will be in a dock once Modi reaches new delhi as PM.....
My comment got lost, so this is a second try : Again as an outside observer I feel Modi is in the correct place at the correct time as the saying goes : there comes a time in the affairs of men, which when taken at the flood leads on to fortune. India is witnessing a ' Congress fatigue syndrome '.........so it looks like its an election for the BJP to lose.
best thing is you have accepted honestly.that is really big.makes u bigger in my eyes
Patel sahib, its RIGHT OF INDIAN PEOPLE to elect anyone, they consider best for their country and future. PERIOD.
Modi has proven himself in Gujarat and even most of the minority community in Gujarat secretly adore him as he has stood for development for all. He is a perfect PM candidate and would make a great PM inshalla
It is not so much about BJP or Congress as about " corruption across the nation"
The elevation of Narendra Modi has left large sections of Pakistani diaspora freting and fuming. It is understandable since a strong and decisive Indian PM is not in Pakistan's interest. The last strong and truly decisive Indian PM split Pakistan in to two. Although Modi may not be able to achieve that feat but surely any LoC beheadings or 26/11 type attacks would invite severe retribution. A strong Indian PM may in fact tone down Pakistani handlers of non state actors thus paving way for peaceful relations between the two nations.
Will American Visa really matter when he becomes a PM ??? or even otherwise ?? Why so much of hoopla about the visa ?? Nobody wants to go to America ... It is matter of concern only for the people who want to brown nose US ...
ETBLOGS1987
@MSS: US decision on visa ws in 2005 after which Modi has never applied for visa and he has indicated that he will not visit unless invited by IS government. He has since been acquitted by courts and there is a record of governing for 11 years without any communal riots. UK and EU have already changed their policy. IS ambassador has already visited Modi to indicate that review is under way. If USdoes not change and Modi does become the PM, it is US which will be putting the strategic partnership at risk. Elections in India have never been decided based on what US likes and will not be in the future either. Win or lose it will be based on whether Indians feel Modi is best for India.
Modi knows that the Indian electorate is very disillusioned with the loot Politics of the CONgress. While India is a Parliamentary Democracy he is trying to convert it into a Presidential contest of personalities. The Congress has many alliance partners, the BJP has only two. The fun and games start now and the campaign could get very vicious with personal attacks and mudslinging.
Modi is a confident and self-assured leader with an amazing track record of performance in development and good governance who dares enough to say on the national stage why he should be leading the country to reach its full potential on the MERIT.
Name one leader who has such courage to openly accept the challange to lead and steer the party to a thumping victory through the 2014 elections despite all known odds? NONE from any party.
Modi is successfully breaking all barriers such as class, education and caste, all of which are still driving factors in Indian politics. Being a member of a so-called lower caste and not with oxford/Cambridge English speaking capabilities, he found his supporters from the upper caste people and from public schools...and coming from a humle (poor) background, he found support from corporate offices and well-to-do india and from the the experts in many fields.
The most significantstatement of the 2014 election campaign, according to M J Akbar, so far has been Modi's reminder that the only religion of a politician must be the Constitution of India.
@MSS. Sure US will not issue a visa to Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of a state in India. But it becomes difficult for US not to issue a visa, IF HE APPLIES FOR A DIPLOMATIC VISA AS THE PRIME MINISTER of India. Please note that Modi's pre-existing visiting Visa was cancelled by the US Government, and a Diplomatic visa denied after post Godhra riots. He has not applied for one after that. US has said it will cooperate with the next government which will be elected in May 2014, irrespective of its leader.
@Lala gee, it is difficult to answer you and Mr Zaid Hamid, for obvious reasons. Most of my fellow readers of ET know why.
Mr. Patel You say Modi has a very crystallized ideology which he does not hide. For the benefit of the Pakistani and Indian readers you should list them 1,2,3..... these are the ideologies of Modi. Are you up to it? Can you do it in your next column.
You can ignore me Gaga Lee,at least for the benefit of Lala Gee you should do this. He is worried India will be set back by a decade.
@MSS: When US refused visa to Modi, US was just entering the War on Terror. US thought that they can buy favor from Pakistan which proved wrong. That time Dr. Fai was still in good books of US. Now Dr. Fai is in prison. US, having taken a step is unable to back out but is getting there. Modi not making a request to US to grant him a visa has hot helped US. When Modi becomes the Prime Minister of India, UDS will be the first country to congratulate him and invite him. Obama is correcting all mistakes Bush made. EU has already invited Modi and USA will not fall behind. Modi is also liked much in China. Sonia Gandhi's health problems may also bring difficult times for Congress. Rahul is not ready and dynastic politics did not allow others to take leadership in the party.
On the muslims of India, Modi has over 25 %of muslim votes in Gujarat and support for Modi amongst the muslims of Gujarat is only growing and more and more muslims are openly coming out in support for Modi. More and more muslims of India are also thinking of themselves as Indians first and muslims next. Modi can easily get over 25% of muslim votes from all across India. No other party can get so much of muslim votes as the remaining muslim votes will be split amongst various parties.
Personally, I would like to see the sulking face of Pakistanis when Modi becomes the PM of India and begging Modi to visit Pakistan. Modi of course will be gracious and pardon the Pakistanis and grace them with a visit which may be more like President Clinton's visit to Pakistan.
Modi is a true patriot of India. He is the greatest politician borne to Mother India after the first independence. No body in India is capable of governance like him. The Congress has destroyed the country through no-governance, corruption and nepotism. The Ghazi-Khan dynasty is on its way out permanently. With Modi, peace, prosperity and self respect will prevail. The second independence of India is just around the corner.
@MSS: US will not even issue a visitor visa to him. As far as I know, this is not correct. Modi was denied a diplomatic visa in 2005 - at this time he had a valid US tourist or business visa (don't remember which one) that was not revoked at any point - he could have used this visa to travel to the US subsequently but chose not to. The entire clamor is for a diplomatic visa, and a visitor visa is a non-issue. Pls get your facts straight.
@Lala Gee: I rarely pay heed to your comments given how "out there" they usually are. However, I think this comment of yours deserves a response. I'm not sure what you mean by pettiness but with regards "he won't be able to perform...might take India a decade back" remark this is what I have to say: The ruling UPA is actually the one holding back growth since we they have a mute, indecisive and aged leader who is surrounded by a corrupt and self-serving ministers. There is an ongoing policy paralysis in Delhi that has been noted by foreign observers, industrialists and state CMs. Billions of dollars worth of badly needed infrastructure projects are held in a bottleneck. Any decisive leader, let alone someone of Modi's caliber, can loosen things up and get the growth going again. If Modi is elected, you can count on this happening in very short order. Even his detractors have noted his exceptional administrative skills. So no question of going back ten years as you put it.
Modi is becoming very attractive force in UP which sends the largest number of members to parliament. After recent riots in UP, no Muslim is going to vote for congress of Mullayam's SP. Most Hindus in UP will vote for Modi this time. My gut feeling is that even large number of Muslims will vote for Modi. Modi is not a person of double standards. He does what he says. Muslims of Gujarat are very happy with him now. Only pseudo secular and paid media is against him. Very smartly Modi as sidelined Indian media. Modi has made Indian media almost redundant. No other party has a leader who can match Modi's charisma. Entire corporate India and trader lobby is also with Modi. Let the lections come nearer, many regional parties will fall in line and join NDA alliance. As far as Advani is concerned, he is a spent force now in Indian politics. Rahul Gandhi's IQ is too low and is no match to that of Modi Now that Modi is a PM candidate, the real battle will begin in all corners of India. Almost entire youth is with Mr Modi. Rest assured, even Indan Muslims will fall in place well before next year's elections.
dear ET,
the matter of concern is leadership and coalition politics which pakistanis tried and found suitable with last regime. NaMo is a good leader , a good organiser obviously a good politician Sonia Gandhi is paying for her dummy politics, . whether india progress or not , whether indo-pak relation detiorate or not but one thing is sure congress will lose. Should lose becoz change s a must that is democracy.
If those involved in Direct Action could become Governor General and Prime Minister in one country, why not Narendra Modi in another?
Ah, Honestly!! That's new too, for a journalist, that is.
I have mentioned this quote in another article by Ejaz Haider as well, but as this is relevant to my argument, so I am repeating the same here again.
Napoleon once said, when asked to explain the lack of great statesmen in the world, that "To get power, you need to display absolute pettiness, and to exercise power, you need to show true greatness. Such pettiness and such greatness are rarely found in one person."
Well, NaMo has proved his exceptional quality of the first part, without doubt or parallel, we will see how he performs regarding the second part of the quote related with exercising power, the real test of a true statesman's character, if he ever becomes India's Prime Minister. However, if the past record is any predictor, it shouldn't be difficult to interpolate his future behavior as PM. My guess is, he won't be able to perform on any front, and even might take India a decade back,
So now you seek an apology from modi..good
Modi has a tainted past factual or not. US will not even issue a visitor visa to him. Gujrat riots, Ishrat Jahan encounter or some similar might catch up with him. In the end it is media that will play a major role in the next election. Turbulence ahead in Indian politics. Watch this space.
