Two policemen, who were suspended and arrested over Thursday’s escape of an under-trial prisoner (UTP) from their custody, were granted bail by a judicial magistrate in district South, Azizur Rehman, on Friday.
The head constable, Haroon, and constable Asif Sheikh were posted at the Civil Hospital Karachi to guard the ailing prisoner, Wazir Masih, who was shifted from the prison to the medical facility for treatment.
Masih escaped due to the alleged negligence of both the guards, who were later booked and arrested in a case and FIR no. 78/2013 was registered under sections 224, 225-A and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the City Courts police station against them.
Rehman granted bail against a sum of Rs20,000 payable by each of the two policemen, after they had filed applications seeking concession of release on bail.
