Khan said he had taken the decision after consultation with his companions, and would file the termination documents to the Election Commission today.
He further professed that politicking through small, isolated groups was wrong, and that from hereon, he would support the party he feels is heading in the right direction.
The TTP was established in July 2012 as a platform for campaigning against corruption and promoting political awareness among the country's youth.
Dr Khan had told The Express Tribune then:
"TTP wants to create political awareness amongst the youth regarding who to vote for and who not to vote for. I will consistently urge youth to elect honest persons in upcoming elections and stand for survival of the country."
The party's short manifesto stated: "TTP Chief Abdul Qadir Khan will provide real leadership as compared to the corrupt politicians who have looted the country since it was founded."
In February this year, the party's Khyber Pukhtunkhwa wing claimed to have registered over 70,000 members.
For the general elections of May 11, the TTP fielded joint candidates with Jamaat-e-Islami, contesting with a "missile" as their symbol.

@karachite: Do you think the present political dispensation would allow anybody to bring about any meaningful change to education policies?
Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan is pride of Pakistan as he worked to safeguard our country through nuclear power. He should now work in education empowerment and social welfare programs. He can do well in technology and energy sectors.
He should focus to the initiatives for improvement in education in Pakistan. I don't know why such top level scientist think about bringing the change in Pakistan by joining politics. There is much to do in education in which his services and guide is required for the youth. Please focus on education.
Pakistan cannot move forward without a leader like Allama Mashriqi. Information about him is on the internet (Facebook, Youtube). Pakistani media promotes corrupt leaders. Doctor sahib should write an article on Allama Mashriqi to guide the nation regarding true leadership.
@Vega: I know Dr Riazuddin as physicist, teacher and a human being. Very sad to know a hero died without one line news.
Join PTI :)
Ironically today , the only thing to keep a country safe from later day Alexander and his followers ........are Nuclear technology or chemical weapons
What he did when he enjoyed protocol not less than president?
AQ Khan has brought enough trouble on our heads; he should now relax at home, and let us Pakistanis get on with our lives.
Now then, the troll followers would light up the usual propaganda that A.Q. Khan would join Tehreek-e-Facebook. As if such misinformation was never disseminated in the past.
@syed baqar ahsan: Edhi and his wife who are serving humanity for decades. We do have our heros but they do not capitalize their work and cash in politics. There are many NGO's and foot soldiers who are working to make life better for others. Regards, M
@Zain, Hero? Do you even know one of the scientist who made major contributions to Pakistan Atomic program died on 09 Sep this year. His name was Dr. Riazuddin. That man never came to media to prove the world his contributions just because of humility. He put into reality institutions like NCP, Quaid-e-Azam university physics dept. He taught for 50 years, last year i took 3 courses on graduate physics while he was 83. That's a real hero that masses including you don't care......
kk
@syed baqar ahsan: We know how to respect our heroes, Dr Khan just isn't one. I find it hard to respect a pardoned nuclear proliferator.
We do lack the sense to identify heroes though.
@Zain: Do you have any hero in Pakistan.
@Zain: we have no sense to recognize because we only live on what other say and no country in the world till to day followed international rules to make nuke, even today Quaid and Allama are not hero because mullah has alright to miss lead the masses.Look back now what you have said.
we have no sense to recognize our hero, there small error is magnified and people sitting in assemblies has no guts to honour him,he should have been the president of Pakistan.Still slaves.
@Safwan:
And yeah why not as he is the one providing nukes to North Korea, Iran and may some other nations which we may not know yet. A self-proclaimed Hero of Pakistan.
So there's only one TTP left now. lolz
OK.
PS Marketing 101, founding a party whose abbreviation does not sound exactly like Tehreek-e-Taliban would have been a better idea.
Dr Abdul Qadir Khan is an asset of Pakistan.
After dissolving his own political party, he should join some other very well know political party to strengthen the political party as well as Pakistan.
