Releasing Taliban prisoners

Letter September 13, 2013
I think the military is playing a let’s-wait-and-see game with the PML-N government.

ISLAMABAD: This is in reference to the news story, “Six Tehreek-e-Taliban prisoners released, for 2 FC personnel” (September 11). I am now surprised as to why people are even moaning over Shahrukh Jatoi’s alleged pact with Shahzeb Khan’s family when, at the same time, our government is willing to release killers of thousands of people just to get them to the ‘talks’ table. What if a peace accord is signed with the Taliban, all their imprisoned members are released from our jails (as demanded) and then one fine day the killers decide they no longer want to stick to the accord, because of whatever reason? I remember that after the last peace accord with Sufi Mohammad, he started claiming that wearing a black turban was a religious obligation. I think the military is playing a let’s-wait-and-see game with the PML-N government — this is not good for our country.
