Pakistan now require 264 runs to win the second test.
Zimbabwe were 172 for seven in their second innings at lunch- an overall lead of 236 - with the home side adding just 51 runs to their overnight total of 121 for four against tight bowling on a tricky pitch.
The wickets were shared by the Pakistani bowlers. Left-arm fast bowler Rahat Ali took five wickets for 52 runs.
