CHITRAL: Two connecting bridges and five shops were washed away by flashfloods in Chitral on Wednesday evening.

Chitral Commissioner Shoaib Jadoon told journalists heavy downpour in the upper parts of the district caused the streams to overflow. As a result, the ensuing floods affected houses built along the river bank. By evening, water had started entering a residential area of Danin, sweeping two bridges and five shops with it. Soon after, residents started to vacate their homes. The commissioner said the district government had directed all officials to stop whatever they were doing and help with relief activities in the affected areas. “The village remains inaccessible because of the destroyed bridges, but maintenance work will soon start once the water recedes,” he added.
