ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Tuesday said that India must avoid escalation on the Line of Control (LoC) for building smooth relations with Pakistan. He said this during a meeting with the Indian High Commissioner T C A Raghavan on Tuesday. Shah opined that instead of having a meeting in Washington DC, leaders of the countries could meet in Islamabad and New Delhi to iron out the differences. He also stressed upon softening the visa policy as that would strengthen people-to-people contact and ease off the tension. “The Kashmir issue should be resolved as the top priority in accordance with the UN’s declaration and according to wishes of the Kashmiri people,” the opposition leader stressed. He also pointed out that both the countries need to focus on the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to strengthen economic ties. Shah also discussed issues pertaining to prisoner exchange between India and Pakistan.
