Crackdown: Suspect killed, two others held in Rangers raid

KARACHI:
A suspect was killed and two of his accomplices were arrested during an alleged encounter with Rangers in the Fisheries area on Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson for Rangers, the suspects opened fire on seeing the officials, which led to an encounter, during which Shafiq Pathan was killed, while his two companions were arrested. The personnel also seized weapons from their possession.

The deceased was said to be affiliated with the Awami National Party, however, an ANP spokesperson denied that the man had any links with the party. Residents claimed, however, that Pathan was killed in a fake encounter.

Docks police SHO Sohail Khan said that the police have yet to be collect details of the encounter. No case was registered till the filing of this report.


Separately, Rangers conducted a series of targeted raids in Pathan Colony and apprehended seven alleged criminals affiliated with a banned outfit along with grenades and weapons.

A few suspects were also reportedly detained by Rangers officials during separate raids conducted in Federal B Area’s Ancholi Society and Old Haji Camp area, however, the number of apprehended persons were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, Karachi police claim to have apprehended 148 alleged criminals, including 23 absconders, 40 suspects under the Arms Ordinance, 22 suspects under the Narcotics Ordinance, four suspects under the Terrorism Act and three alleged extortionists. They have also recovered 43 illicit arms and weapons during various raids in parts of the city.
