Acid attack: Murder convict sentenced to death

Convict was also ordered to pay a Rs200,000 fine. Javaid has been declared a proclaimed offender.

FAISALABAD: Anti Terrorism Court Judge Ishtiaq Ahmad on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to a man accused of attacking a woman with acid leading to her death. Muhammad Javaid, a resident of Chak 78-JB, and his accomplice Shahid Hussain drugged his (Javaid’s) wife on May 16. They had then poured acid on her and fled. The case was registered with the Thikriwala police. Hussain was arrested a few days later, but Javaid is still at large. Police said Hussain had confessed to the crime. On Tuesday, the judge awarded him life imprisonment on two counts (murder and terrorism). Hussain was also ordered to pay a Rs200,000 fine. Javaid has been declared a proclaimed offender.
