KARACHI: The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) will request the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) to include tennis in their list of events for the third Islamic Solidarity Games, to begin from September 22 in Indonesia.

The POA decreased the number of disciplines for the Games from nine to six after a meeting held on Monday. POA Secretary Khwaja Farooq Saeed said that the events would include athletics, badminton, wushu, volleyball, basketball and karate.

However, this will mean that Pakistan will not be able to defend their tennis title .

“We’re the best tennis team among the Islamic countries and it’ll be unfortunate if we don’t participate,” PTF Secretary Mumtaz Yousuf told The Express Tribune. “We nominated our squad with the organisers three months ago through the Arif Hassan-led POA. However, since they are out of the picture, we would want Akram Sahi, the government-led POA president to consider the sport.”
