Shahrukh Jatoi, Nawab Siraj Talpur, Nawab Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari had earlier been handed down the death sentence and life imprisonment for the murder of Shahzeb Khan, in a case that had gripped the nation’s attention for its significance as a test case for delivering justice amidst the travesties of class difference.
Speaking about his decision, Aurangzeb said, "I cannot even think of agreeing to a deal with anyone. I have not agreed to a pardon under duress, but there are complications."
Shahzeb's father did not indicate what the "complications" were.
"I went to the court all alone for nine months. The case was no where near the finish lane. I have just reached a point where I want to leave everything to God," said Aurangzeb.
He claimed that Sikandar Jatoi, the father of Shahrukh Jatoi had visited his house six times to ask for a pardon.
'No one will be harmed'
Asserting that he had not pardoned the culprit to harm anyone, Shahzeb's father said, "Ibrahim Jatoi who is also an MNA of the National Peoples Party (NPP) has guaranteed no one will harm the witnesses."
Responding to a query about the family leaving for Australia, he said, "we had applied for visas when everyone had suggested that we leave the country out of concern for our safety".
He said the visas had not arrived as part of any deal.
Aurangzeb said, "I'm not going anywhere. Why would I leave my country? I will make sure that the witnesses of the case are safe."
Responding to the question about his relation with Muttahida Qaumi Movement MNA Nabil Gabol, he said, "If it hadn't been for Nabil Gabol, the FIR would not have been filed."
"I respect everyone's views but I did what I had to keeping in mind everyone's interests," he said, adding that Shahzeb's friends were skipping their classes to devote their attention to a case that would have taken several months to resolve.
All four murderers had appealed to the Sindh High Court six days after a Karachi Anti-Terrorism Court had handed down the death penalty to prime suspects Shahrukh Jatoi and Nawab Siraj Talpur and life imprisonment for co-accused Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari for their involvement in the gruesome murder of Shahzeb Khan on the night of December 24-25, 2012 in the upscale DHA neighbourhood of Karachi.
"Parents must have pardoned the culprits under duress"
Speaking in the same TV show, Shahzeb Khan's aunt said that she was sure if "Shahzeb's parents had signed anything, it was under duress".
Quoting Shahzeb's father, Aurganzeb, the victim's aunt said that he always wanted the culprits to face the consequences of their actions.
"He would never have pardoned the culprits," she said.
Talking about the ordeal that Shahzeb's family had to face on a regular basis, she said, "Shahzeb's was not the only blood that our family saw. Aurangzeb was continuously beaten and our family elders had to often take him to the hospital, bleeding."
"Ziauddin Hospital has records of the injuries he had suffered," she added, while stating that her brother was injured even now.
Talking about the hue and cry that was raised on social media over the pardon, she said that Shahzeb was not only Aurangzeb and Ambreen's son but he is the entire nation's child.
"The conviction of Jatoi should not be reversed based on the signature of a single family," she said.
She also maintained that the Aurangzeb and Ambreen were not in touch with any of the family members since the last six months.
"Even Ambreen's sisters had no idea that the family was planning on pardoning the convicted," she said.

@Imran: She also stated this: "She also maintained that the Aurangzeb and Ambreen were not in touch with any of the family members since the last six months." So since when this case actually went to trial, there has been no contact with the rest of the family (count back the months). Therefore, this is more propaganda - she clearly has NO IDEA! And for those who bothered to check (it's on youtube - pause it) - the Pardon paperwork was signed in the middle of JULY - it just didn't hit the media til 9th September. AND six months back from there is January..... Wake up to the long con you have been played!
since the day it was announced that shahzebs family pardoned the culprits for their son's murder, everyone formulated their own opinions. some were found saying, the family got greedy, some said they wanted to the australian immigration, some said they came under duress. i personally am with the latter. the jatois have gone to prove that corruption, power and money can literally buy justice right from under the noses of the entire nation. i feel sad for shahzebs family who fought so hard, gaged the entire country into fighting for something that was right and yet had to finally retract because of the threats they faced constantly since the case started. i feel sad for Pakistan and the people who made this country, the ones who dreamed that it would be a country with equal rights. all i can hope for at this point is that sharukh jatoi, the talpurs and the jatoi family suffer as much pain, if not more, in Allah's court one day.
Just to understand this law better .. Are parents allowed to only pardon killers or to kill their sons also ? They can easily forgive themselves for doing so by giving blood money to themselves decided by themselves !
Come on mods air my comments let the truth prevail.
EVERY criminal should be forgiven then. You don't need jails or criminal courts. I hope the Taliban takes suo moto notice of this and give their version of justice to Shahrukh Jatoi.
Question is ,If a powerful family
s son could bear this kind of justice/result after a nation
s power with his family. What is the value of a common family`s son?????????????????hunger games
I fail to understand how a common Pakistani can blame the parents for pardoning these fuedals...!! do we not know how influential, & barbaric these people are & the writ of law in this country..!!! They have other children as well a daughter & her family..who knows they are threatened that they will loose their other children if that murderer Shahrukh gets hanged..!! Lack of common sense & not addressing the root of the problem is getting so common amongst us that we jump to conclusions in the spur of the moment.
They have lost a son & no one who has been through this himslef can know how devastating it is...!! so please leave them alone.. longlive the feudal system in Pakistan..!!
Wadera power has grown manifold under the 6 year corruption party rule. Waderas have turned Karachi into larkana where waderas can now kill anyone and roam around free flashing victory signs. The only salvage for Karachi is that the city should be given back its separate identity and status that was given to it at the time of partition when it was made the federal capital otherwise the waderas will completely destroy this once cosmopolitan city
What does this mean
"Talking about the ordeal that Shahzeb’s family had to face on a regular basis, she said, “Shahzeb’s was not the only blood that our family saw. Aurangzeb was continuously beaten and our family elders had to often take him to the hospital, bleeding.” ?
Finally it proved again, our judicial system is not for elites. This was an intentional murder and not accidental, how can a family pardon the culprit, ridiculous. These elites are just getting more encouragement and mocking law of state. It is sad day indeed, phew!
Guys@ what ever the parents and court decided and when they are pardoning the killer ,sure ! its very difficult decision but when ever they drunk the poison now why we people are threading and blaming...now we should play role of sympathy with parents of Shahzeb.shahzeb was nearest to his mother, father and sisters remaining all are actors..so now its better to stop criticize upon them.
@ABC: Please do study Islamic Laws. Blood Money is only in case when someone is killed by mistake. Not in this case.
For every one who is saying that this law is stupid, or just family should not have right to pardon. I would suggest them to watch their words. The concept of Qasas, Deeyat and Pardon is given by Islam. And right of giving pardon is only given to the family and not anyone else....Not even President of Pakistan.
@Ch. Allah Daad: There are thousands of other similar cases supported by tax money, it is basically government's job to make sure they arrange for the prosecutors, et cetera. Why are you so concerned about this particular case only? Because you wrote a few comments on FB, here?
Do not assume that you possibly did more than the parents and are at a greater loss than them! You don't even know the details why they took this decision and the circumstances they are facing. This moral policing and holier than thou attitude is an equally big problem in Pakistan.
@ Green Tiger under conditions that are meant to be met. Blood money means the parents must be paid but they are taking no money, so I don't know how they are pardoning the killer? The thing is people wanted to see justice because if these guys went prison, it meant you can still have faith as a common man in the law. Pakistan does not even follow Sharia Law properly. But it's not a 'stupid law' as the stupid person claims. It's a law that allows the parents to get justice their own way, either capital punishment or money. But does this mean if they have pardoned the killer, the killers are pardoned in the eyes of Allah and won't be punished? We never know. Leave everything to Allah, Surely if these people can escape the adalat of the dunya but never Khuda's adalat. Shahzeb is a shaheed and may Allah grant him a high place in Jannah.
Pls leave the parents alone, nothing will change in the system.
Captains get sacked if they cannot lead their teams to victory, here Qaim Ali Shah continues as the captain after having miserably failed in the past 5 years.
Its really repellent. Today is the sad day for the whole Pakistani nation.I just don’t understand that why the family get pressurized.when the civil society, media and supreme court are with them. Why they pardon the killer s? All of them were continuously smiling. No one were guilty. It is a big slap on all of us. Well done parents. Why you played with our emotion? why you manipulated? Now the whole world must be laughing at us. What a country? God bless poor Pakistanis.
@Ahmad: You are right, this is the most disgusting law. I have observed few times in village life that families plan and push one of their useless member into fight and wish him to die. The purpose is to get money.
Why not state sue the case against culprits to make it test case and ensure the saftey of its people.
"Stop airing one family’s problems on tv channels. They lost a son and ultimately its their decision." @ABC No, its not their decision. Its our tax money which is spent on this case and its we who will live under constant threat. It would have been family's decision if they had not gone to State for prosecution and had pardoned them before prosecution.
No it is not their family problem, the day when whole society started demanding justice for Shahzeb it was not their family problem anymore. If they would have to take this route then why they started/joined the campaign to demand justice? Now don't tell us it was due to threat to their other kids, everybody was well aware about such situation. If they cannot stand for justice then they should have never demand justice. What about those who were supporting them whole heatedly on social media and on the roads of our country? Why they never think about those people who face the brunt of these feudal? Utterly disgusting decision to pardon the killer of their son.
Peshawar high court has banned pardon by family members in terrorism cases because it is fisad fil arz. This case was not being charged under section302 but under anti terrorism ord so technically the judge cannot accept the family's pardon
I know this will sound horrible but honestly I knew this will happen and that's why I never took too much interest in this case. I'm sorry that Shahzeb had to leave the world like this but his family should have buried him and left him alone. What is the point in getting a conviction and then letting a cold blooded murderer go? This is why there is no hope for this country. I am appalled by this news. I keep thinking of Shahrukh Jatoi's smiling face and victory sign as he walked out of the courtroom after getting a death sentence. He was sure nothing will happen to him, and unfortunately he was right. Shame on the justice system. Shahzeb's parents didn't just pardon their son's murderers but they gave a certificate to all these people to go and commit any crime they want because it is true they are invincible. Absolutely outrageous!!
They pardoned him to go out and kill someone else.
With all due respect, I don't think there is no under the table deal. After all $$ (dollar sign) has alot of power.
they have pardoned jatoi in the name of Allah, thats understandable but state has no reason to pardon them , its not just shahzaib family's discretion to decide the faith of culprits
@Acorn Guts But what they did is within legal framework. Its sad but unfortunately not illegal. I just want the family to fight amongst themselves in private. This nand-bhawaj dramas should not be played on live tv especially in a serious matter.
Ahmad: "This is the most stupid law I have ever heard of.... "
Mind you.. You are committing Blasphemy. Ziat or Blood Money is perfectly in line with the Islamic Laws.
The power and paisa wins again..
First thing we need to lose as a nation is the romantic nation that we are some kind of 'chosen' people who can behave ethically. We have proved time and time again that we lack the capacity to live a lawful lives. It is our fervour to shove religion into every aspect of our national life that is making such shocking injustice possible.
Please learn to live with injustice and pray harder because changing the system requires much intelligence and fresh thinking -- and we lack both. Our corrupt leadership will not change a system that allows them the freedom to get away with, excuse the pun, murder.
Live with it and for God's sake stop complaining.
This seems to be a good example of the misuse of religion.
Travesty of justice. Feudal families and war lords prevail. Perhaps street justice will set things right, lets see!
This is the most stupid law I have ever heard of. If your do a crime you should be punished. There should be no pardon in the country like Pakistan where crime is at its highest.
Shazeb was shot couple of months ago but he died Today! I feel terrible that parents pardon a person who has killed their child intentionally (its not an accident that the murderer commited).A rich guy can kill a person and get away buy paying money and if a poor person commits such a crime he gets hanged.I just feel that value for life of a person in Pakistan is very low
@ABC: I beg to differ, when an innocent is killed in vain, the relatives of the deceased are not the only ones who are affected .. the whole society and the entire nation takes the hit. It was Shahzeb today; it might be me tomorrow. The right to pardon therefore does not sit with the parents only .. an example needs to be made out of the culprits for the sake of the society and this nation.
If I have money and influence; does that mean I can get away with cold blooded murder? the concept of justice in Pak says I can .. which is extremely dangerous!
This was a very difficult decision for Shahzeb's parents Who sufferet most.
We should respect their decision
A thousand curses on the murderers and their powerful family. You not only committed murder but subverted justice by using your corrupt powers. May Allah exact his justice fast on these culprits and their families in this lifetime. The boys committed murder because of bad upbringing, hence the parents are equally guilty. By buying justice they are only teaching their children more wrong. May Allah free our country from such people. May Allah make them pay for this murder every minute of their lives. Yes justice now is in the hands of Allah.
Stop airing one family's problems on tv channels. They lost a son and ultimately its their decision.
I am failed to think that how can parents pardon the murderer of their son. If they had to pardon him then why they took so long?
I think we need to give him a fair chance..the pardon has been coerced from the family.
I feel in current circumstance, he has taken right decision which will benefits everyone involved.
