The membership drive is expected to last till February 2014 and intra-party elections will be held once the drive is completed, JUI-F provincial spokesperson Haji Jalil Jan told The Express Tribune.
Jan said the three-year term of the party’s organisation will be over later this year. “According to party rules and regulations, a membership drive will be launched across the province and the country.”
A decision was made by the JUI-F central general council to appoint former Balochistan assembly speaker Advocate Sikandar Khan as the election commissioner for intra-party polls, he added.
“The election commissioner will announce provincial election commissioners at a later stage, and provincial election commissioners will then appoint district election chiefs across the country,” said Jan.
Elections will be held for office bearers from union council level to central positions. Jan said preparations for the drive are underway and membership coupons are being printed.
“Under the party’s constitution, elections must be held after every three years and the membership drive lasts about four months. The elections for party offices takes another two months,” he informed. “Members who are able to draw a high number of supporters are entitled to membership of important decision making bodies.”
Jan explained if a member brings with them about 3,000 supporters, they become part of the party’s central general council. “Those bringing about 600 supporters are admitted to the provincial general council, while a member with 300 supporters is inducted to the district chapter.”
