Extra-judicial: ‘Thief’ beaten up by citizens

Police said the man had confessed to stealing gas and electricity meters.

GUJRANWALA: A man was beaten up by citizens on Monday after he was caught stealing gas meters and regulators. He was handed over to the police. Satellite Town police said that some people, on their way from the neighbourhood mosque, noticed Muhammad Zulfiqar, stealing a gas meter and a regulator from outside a house. On seeing the men, he tried to flee. He was caught and beaten up before he was handed over to the police. He was given first aid on the spot. Police said the man had confessed to stealing gas and electricity meters. He told police that he often stole meters along with his accomplices.  He claimed that some Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited workers were also involved. Police said they were looking for Zulfiqar’s accomplices and investigating his claims about involvement of Sui Gas workers.
