KARAK: Hundreds of protesters in Karak criticised the medical staff of Takht-e-Nusrati Civil Hospital after a doctor refused to perform a post-mortem on a man who was electrocuted on Sunday.

Aslam Khan, a resident of Sarai Naurang, used to repair faults in electricity lines on humanitarian grounds. On Sunday, he was repairing the power supply line in Chokara area when he was electrocuted and died on the spot.

Locals took the body to Takht-e-Nusrati, but doctors were absent from duty.

The locals then went to Dr Abdur Rahman’s house who was the doctor on duty, and requested him to perform the autopsy.

Dr Rahman, however, refused to conduct the post-mortem and asked them to take the body to another hospital.

Infuriated, people took the body to the Indus Highway near Amberi Kala and blocked the road. Placing Aslam’s body on the road, protesters shouted slogans against the medical officials of the hospital.

The protesters, led by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) local leader Abdul Hadi Khattak, refused to end the demonstration unless an autopsy was performed on the deceased electrician.

After remaining firm on their stance for two hours, PTI District President MPA Gul Sahib Khan along with District Health Officer
Dr Daraz Khattak and Assistant Commissioner Karak Irfanullah Wazir visited the site to negotiate.

The protesters, however, denied settling with only assurances of taking action against the doctor.

Following this, the MPA suspended Dr Rahman and ordered an inquiry into the matter after which the protesters reopened
the route.
