The Anti-Corruption Court (ACC) reserved a verdict on an application seeking bail for the deputy-director of the labour department in a graft case on Saturday.
The deputy-director labour (medical), Dr Iftikhar Sehar, was caught red-handed while allegedly taking bribe from the staff of a leading beverage factory for issuance of clearance certificate, according to the prosecution.
A raid was conducted on the complaint filed by the factory’s employee, Nooruddin, to the ACC. A case 24/2013 was registered under section 161 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act) of the Pakistan Penal Code and section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
On Saturday, the accused filed a bail application through his lawyer, who claimed that the applicant was innocent and falsely implicated by the complainant. The lawyer pleaded to the court to grant him bail since the offence was bailable, alleging that the prosecution’s case was false.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Judge Ghulshan Ara Chandio reserved his verdict on the bail plea, which will be announced later.
