Outbreak continues in Swat: 85 more dengue cases confirmed

Dengue virus continues to spread unabated in Swat district as 85 new cases surfaced on Saturday and  the patients were admitted to Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH).


According to the focal person of the dengue unit at STH, Dr Wisal, a total of 1,414 patients have been confirmed to be infected. “Around 85 new patients were admitted in STH after the virus was confirmed in them, while 1,147 patients have already returned home after  complete recovery,” he claimed.

Wisal said 233 patients were hospitalised at the moment, including 160 males and 73 females. “There are six dengue fever patients who have complications while four others are under treatment in the intensive care ward but their condition is stable,” he said, adding three others have been referred to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

According to unofficial sources, a patient identified as Qari Attaullah died on Saturday, however, Dr Wisal denied the casualty.

Dengue has so far claimed fives lives in Swat district while data collected from private laboratories puts the number of infected persons at over 6,000.

Meanwhile, the virus has also reached Mardan where 14 people including one woman were reportedly brought to the Mardan Medical Complex on Friday. DC Mardan Amir Latif called an emergency meeting and said teams had been formed to carry out fumigation in the entire district.

They (PTI walas) made mockery of Sharifs on dengu now they are caught up with the same situation.Lesson: Be fearful of God don't make mockery of others.
