During the meeting, Kayani briefed on the law and order situation of Karachi and Balochistan.
Nawaz was also informed about the recent targeted operations being carried out in Karachi. He also appreciated the rigorous efforts being made to establish peace in the city.
It was also agreed that the government and the army will work together to tackle the menace of terrorism.
The prime minister ordered that measures should be taken to block all unauthorised SIMs, and talks should be held with the telecommunication agencies.
The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Pervaiz Rasheed, Khawaja Zaheer, Zahid Hamid and Chaudhry Qamar Zaman, among other provincial ministers, heads of agencies and federal ministers.
The government will hold its first all parties’ conference (APC) on Monday to evolve a national consensus on proposed talks with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
PM Nawaz and his cabinet members will present a proposed roadmap for engagement to representatives of all parliamentary parties during the APC.

"Too many discussions hardly any action". Well said Khalid and others. We have an institution called the United Nations. Has this institution been able to give people of the world the "Peace" they need? Why? We the people for far too long, have been naive enough to have been laying our trust on those people who are incapable of doing what needs to be done. Our expectations have been futile. Our expectations will remain futile. Has anything changed anywhere for us the people? Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change. Nothing. Not until we the affected people will show the sense in bringing the necessary change in ourselves. We need to change our outlook and most important our habits. Our outlook should be that no one is capable of giving us any thing. No one is gonna give us anything. What we need we will have to take ourselves. Ourselves, peacefully methodically. To do so we need to organise ourselves. Do I need say any more? Are there not enough intellectuals amongst us who see the sense in organising ourselves? Are there not enough intellectuals amongst us who will start and maintian the momentum to organise us the people. This is the only solution to our problem. Solve it through self reliance and self help. Can there be any thing better than self help?
@asim: No problem. As long as NS gets the job done. Salams
Nawaz Sharif, Sahib. Too many meetings and talk shawk is going on. Pakistan is sixty-six years of age and no more political communions with PPP, please. Let welfare and security of the citizens acquire primacy. No more lavish dinners, lunches, and banquets for the politicians who are already rich beyond measure and devote the resources of the state for the Pakistanis. It is time to move on AHEAD. Salams
@Pak-Canadian: Even Zardari was making more efforts having long cabinet meetings in Karachi last 5 years. Chairing meetinga and letting terrorists and Bhata khores out by announcing operation prematurely is a well thought-out drama by ruling dacoits of PMLN.
So please explain just why the government and the army were NOT "working together to tackle the menace of terrorism" BEFORE THIS MEETING???? (Maybe not enough Pakistanis had been slaughtered over the years for them to notice???)
Elected from Punjab to rule the Country and running the show from Raiwan ! Just a flashy news item for the PM devoid of action, action plan, strategy, tangible road map !
@Lahori: "among other provincial ministers...." At least read the news before making a comment
People, of course, have a right to criticize, but the fact is that NS clearly stands out as active and trying hard to address the terrorism, esp. law & order situation in Karachi. As well, the way he has been able to get all parties' (except of course PTI!!!) to act decisively, is very refreshing, and demonstrates maturity of NS' style and approach.
I find the criticisim totally absurd, PM spent two days in Karachi with CM sindh and Governor Sindh, I think the solution is not easy but at least he is trying.
What is the CM Punjab doing here? Aren't all CM's invited?
How should he demonstrate seriousness in combating terrorism even he is working in off days. Criticism totally unjustified.
If talking about law and order situation in Karachi, it's a known fact that all the major political parties including MQM, PPP and ANP are part of the problem. All the major gangs active in Karachi are run by these parties and the PM knows this. So I wonder how will the PM solve the issue without taking on these gangs as he wouldn't want to offend the parties or atleast some of them.
So what message is being sending to terrorists. If you can cause enough violence, the GOP would not only offer you impunity but adhere to your terms and conditions.
NS, be productive and show some results now. Don't waste precious time in worthless meetings. What do you think you have enough time (5 Years) to resolve issues? No, ........... you have very short time!
Too many discussions hardly any action...
How many of these meetings will the PM chair before he finally takes some action?.
THE Capital both administrative and financial has been shifted to RAIWIND?
