PESHAWAR:

The Yousafzai and Ahmadzai Truck and Trailer Drivers Association on Thursday demanded the government to take notice of ‘injustices’ at the hands of police and khasadar officials.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club, the association’s president Gul Bashar Khalil alleged truck and trailer drivers are often exploited by traffic police personnel on Ring Road, which leads to Khyber Agency. “The drivers are labourers and have no concern with anything other than moving towards their destinations,” he said.

Khalil accused police officials of demanding bribes and harassing drivers upon their refusal to do so. He alleged drivers in Khyber Agency are fined Rs50,000 to Rs60,000 for no reason.

Accompanied by other office bearers, Khalil threatened to take to the streets and hold a ‘wheel jam’ strike.
