With the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) 90-day deadline to bring change now over, the party is in the crosshairs of political opposition.
The PTI-led coalition completed its first three months on August 31 and the very next day Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak claimed at a news conference that change was visible in the province.
Opposition parties, on the other hand, are mocking PTI for making empty promises and launching into a rhetoric they say was bound to lead nowhere.
“PTI lacked serious thinking and planning. What it was promising before the elections or even after taking charge was mere rhetoric,” Awami National Party’s parliamentary leader in the K-P Assembly Sardar Hussain Babak told The Express Tribune.
Babak said PTI in its pre-election rallies had claimed it has a plan for the province, but appointed working groups after assuming charge – indicating it in fact did not have any concrete plans.
He maintained no one asked the PTI to give a 90-day deadline to bring change but the party made tall claims. “Extortion has increased to a great extent and has demoralized the public,” said Babak, adding the government had controlled neither inflation nor law and order.
The ANP leader also accused PTI of acting vindictively towards the bureaucracy and showing lack of trust in government officials. Babak claimed the ruling party was taking revenge against officials, threatening and transferring them needlessly.
He accused the provincial government of violating provincial autonomy by taking government officials to meetings with the PTI chief in Islamabad. “PTI has revived the ‘one-unit’ during its first three months,” he added.
Babak said the public has shown its lack of trust in PTI’s promises as is evident from its loss in NA-1. “We were crying from day one. The PTI’s mandate was bogus and this loss validates our assertion,” he said, questioning where the 90,000 votes that Imran Khan secured in the general elections went in the by-polls.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) provincial information secretary Jalil Jan also said he has not seen any change in K-P. “People need bread, sugar and peace, which PTI has failed to provide,” he added.
Jan alleged PTI’s government was “hell bent on destruction of state institutions through its reckless policies” in the name of change. He said the only change visible to him was meetings at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad and helicopter flights.
Jan said Peshawar was without a police chief and his second in command for the past three weeks. While the latter was appointed some days back, he is yet to take charge, he added.
In an apparent reference to the chief minister’s criticism of bureaucracy, he cautioned the government to avoid any clash with institutions.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) provincial general secretary Rehmat Salam Khattak said PTI now wanted to extend its deadline by another month, which indicated its slogan of change was hollow. “They have done nothing, and I do not see any change in K-P.”

@Ejaz "currency depreciated 25% in one month", hmmmm so it was Rs78/$ last month and now it is Rs105/$. If that is true, then how come I exchanged my dollars for Rs97.5/$ in late February. Where was I when all that happened to our currency ;).
What about PMLN's promises on filling the gap of Electricity shortage in 6 months, promise on breaking Kashkol, promise on economic blast, promise on law and order, promise on Asian Tiger again etc. Please ET, do an article on PMLN promises too.
Look guys, this is not achievement that today we compare Punjab with NWFP performance otherwise in the past were heard only about Punjab chief Minister and his dramas, nowadays atleast those dramas were not seen on the social media.Secondly Pakistan has other provinces as well like Sindh,Baluchistan,Kashmir,Baltistan, where are they only hit back NWFP and its performance.Even than its million times better than those who were ruling this country from last 30years.Comparing thirty years performance with two months of KPK and declaring PTI get failed, that shows worriness in their minds because the status co is so depressed that they ask JUI_F leader to topple KPK government in KPK otherwise no one of us will left in the politics in the near future. If PTI is failed in KPK,than JUI-F and ANP are succesful,if they can do 5years government why not PTI should be given atleast a one year and than criticise their performance and say about their failure and success. You govern for 30years,JUI-F govern for 5years ,ANP govern for 5 years and you are sucessful and PTI govern only for three months and they become unsucessful. Are you people kidding.
ET blocks me and my friends' pro-Imran comments. Clapping Hojaye
@ufaquarian: Yaar people will not understand. I know, They will support their party even if they had to change their religion. Opposition people will only be silenced after 1 or 2 years that is when there will be actual change in KPK and everyone would feel it and see it.
@Aalu Laylo ! Thanks for your comments , hope people will understand.
The PTI should change the whole country in 90 days while the crooks have had 60+ years to create the mess.
@Ejaz: Why do you guys drag Punjab into everything? Seems like someone envy something :)
@Skeptic
Let me mention a few. RIT law, rated by the World Bank’s experts as among the three top RTI laws being practiced at the global level; conditions in hospitals, online FIR, KP's own security intelligence, the transfers and removal of corrupt govt officials(witnessed by my father who is a govt officer himself) and many other things that people with two eyes and a brain can witness.
@M.A.S: Ok bro.....please have some patience. It takes 8 months to 1 year to built a bridge. atleast 6 months to built a building, 4-6 months to rebuilt roads stuck with floods. This is an average period things are built around the world. Do you think IK has a magic wand?
@Kaleem: Kaleem bhai i agree with you regarding point on mobile court.
@Dear Kaleem: ET did not share my first comment showing the improvements regarding Education reform. I will try to sum it up again in short. This already Done: 1. Allocated biggest budget for Education, 2. installed biometric attendance in education dept, 3. carried out surprise visit to schools, 4. made amendments in the Education curriculum and removed mistakes. Thing To Be Done: 1. Biometric for teacher/student. 2. One education system for poor/rich by march 2014. 3.delegated powers from VC to teachers. 4.VC will be chosen on merit by board members instead of political appointment. ET please share this....I wont write it again.
Dear Opposition and trolls, Please spare some of your energies and criticism for others times as well, as I think people haven't given PTI the mandate for only 90 days.
looks like the remaining provinces are heaven and there are only problems with KPK,Balochistan has not yet been able to form a cabinet, but off course it need not be mentioned as PML N has a government over there
@Fakru bhai, PHC is an independent institution, you just raised a question beyond our imagination :) As for the ANP, they were worse rulers, but in this cast at least, they did not disobey the instructions, infact PHC passed these instructions recently.
@fyza: What change have you exactly seen that others have not???
@Fakru Bhai: Which education reforms? Enlighten us please. Also, mobile courts was setup by PHC Chief justice, lets not distort the facts.
PTI is wordly party. They suppose to have one young CM for KP. However thier seniors may sit in party office to monitor and draft things for their youngs at front. This is the way to run the Government.
What change???? No roads, no bridges, no new school building.......what kind of change is this. we want something tangible, not intangible.
I live in Peshawar and to be very honest, I can see clear improvement. Cleanliness is improving, definitely. Also, a relative went for driving license and said officials over there told there were strict orders not to take bribe.
Interesting ET thinks ANP will give garland of flowers to PTI!
Hey,
I completely support to PTI in KPK as well as all over the Pakistan, and I fully support the PTI agenda throughout the Pakistan, I Khan is the only politician in Pakistan who just talk about Pakistan not to support their relatives not to their business not try to increase his accounts credit in Pakistan nor outside Pakistan. so, remember the old politicians are all corrupt people, please don't support him on any stage, because they are the main reason to dominate our country before the other countries, we should select as leader who earn respect for the country as well as facilitate the people of Pakistan on all part of our country. so please always chose as politician whose record is clear in the past as well as in future, you are bold and educated people don't follow your parents and relatives while casting vote and selecting your leader. always remember
Gul Afridi
@Navaid: If PTI is sinking then all ruling parties are sinking.
criticism by ANP and JUI-F what can we expect
PTI failing while PML N has changed punjab into the best place to live on earth!! No load shedding anymore since Showbaz Sharif couldnt wait for 6 months as he promised.
ET you do remember our currency depreciated 25% in one week under PML N govt. When is an article coming on that?
@babar: Good going. If PTI sits in opposition and gives ANP the government, Then the remaining people of ANP will also be finished by target attacks.....then PTI will be able to rule peacefully.
These critics can never bring PTI down. It is the only party in 66 years who has promised to deliver and eradicate corruption.
look who is talking .. and all I see here is ET,S biasness against PTI ..
common PTI keep it up we are with you .
PTI is a sinking ship.....
ET selected PTI opposition parties to have opinion on PTI performance .... So what do you expect opposition party SUPPORTING the current Govt. ????? Are you kidding ? or just throwing in PTI criticism no matter how lame it sounds ???
@Babak ha ha ha
How dare ANP speak again regarding KPK. The situation of KPK is because of them. They think by collectively winning one seat.....NA-1....people will easily forget what corruption and mismanagement they did in the last five years??? No place for ANP anymore in KPK!
If Molana cannot see....its not my fault. I live in KPK and I can see the difference myself with the 2 eyes. The Peshawar greenery project has initiated, we are getting free medical treatment (no parchi system), RTI law, Mobile court, Education reform.......what more they want.....they just want power.
ET still stuck will this topic. You had already posted an anti-pti article on 90 days. Seems ET cannot control its biasedness.
Don't forget people. PTI all the wayyyy!!!!
Hai hai hai.....all opposition is jelous......I smell something burning!
Look who is criticizing PTI for "not" delivering in 3 months.
Good going PTI, keep it up. We are already witnessing enormous changes in KP.
hahahahhaa Sorry PTI. Its hard work to do. Be cool and go back schools
What else is expected from Opposition Parties?
Even if PTI makes Peshawar Paris, opposition parties will say same things.
even ppp leaders are admitting that pti government has done better than anp government
empty rhetoric opposition...
