"Whatever powers Rangers want, government is ready to give them," he said.
He said that he had imposed the governor rule and lost his provincial government in Sindh in 1998 because of an operation against criminals.
"I will not compromise on law and order in Karachi," he said, adding that the important decisions will be taken at the cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Addressing those present, he said, "Some parties want an army intervention, some are asking for targeted operation while some want control to be handed over to Rangers."
"I just want to assure everyone that when it comes to matters that pertain to the welfare of Pakistan, I don't want to play politics," he added.
The team of government officials that were briefed included federal finance minister Ishaq Dar, information minister Pervez Rashid, interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah.
MQM wants army intervention
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in its report on Tuesday to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about the security situation in Karachi pressed for army intervention, Express News reported.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Haider Abbas Rizvi said that the party had submitted its detailed report on the situation which not only contained an analysis of the present scenario but also had suggestions to resolve it.
"MQM has recommended that the Police, Army and Rangers should come together to carry out an operation against the banned militant outfits, Talibans and criminals," he said.
"However, care must be taken that during the entire process no innocent lives are lost," he added, saying that if even one innocent person dies, the entire process would have gone to waste.
The MQM leader said that reports have been submitted by most political parties upon which the government will present its decision.
Others not so keen
"They want army intervention in Karachi today but what if its needed in Quetta and Peshawar tomorrow ... what's the point of having a democratic government if everything is given to the army," said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Abdul Qader Patel.
He said that this stance did not suit PML-N or PPP.
"The police officials need a morale boost instead," he offered, adding that their recent killings have made them disheartened.

With publicizing this news all the culprits must have vanished the troubled area or armed themselves and waiting ready for a fierce fight.
This action should have been quietly undertaken by surprise after midnight and the area should have been surrounded.
It now sounds like that someone whiten is giving signals for the culprits to run away or get ready..
PPP was in government they and MQM are more responsible for the current situation. parties should not support their criminals members. If they support them they all will responsibal@ET PRINT THIS:
if rangers can control the situation then i thnk there is no need of army but army must check out whole peace process so that we can make karachi peacefull.thats very important honest people stake holders must check out each and every thing@Pakistan:
Won't that make them the "POWER RANGERS"?
does ET use a computer system to scrutinize the comments or there is a Govt afsar sitting right behind the scrutiny system. Please ET release my comments.
MQM, the political party with the largest mandate in the city should have more of a say in this in comparison to PPP who wins only out of rural Sindh then creates a "Provincial Government". It makes absolutely no sense, if this operation was to be held in rural Sindh and PM was to give MQM more importance would that make sense? No. So same applies here, why give PPP more importance when Karachi mandate belongs to MQM? It just does not make any sense. ET PLEASE PRINT THIS.
@Sindhi_Pakistani as per wikipedia the total population of Sindh is 42,400,000 and the total population of Karachi is 23,500,000 which is more than half of the rest of the Sindh population. Sindh NA seats 61 and Karachi NA seats 20. When injustice becomes law then resistance becomes duty and MQM is doing its duty very well. We made Pakistan and this is our Pakistan. There is no room for discrimination on the basis of religion, sects or language but there shouldn't be any room for injustice too. This is the problem with the son of the soils of Pakistan that they put their province name before their country name and bluff to be Pakistani.

MQM is a terrorist org in dress of democratic political party only way to bring peace in khi is through eradicating its militant wing "Muhajir Liberaion Army", plus criminals of ANP and lyaari.. a grand operation through rangers and IB is needed
@Sindhi_Pakistani: Nicely put, Pakistan zindabad!!!!!
Action should speak louder than words Mr.Primeminister!
@sindhi_pakistan....Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally—either directly or through elected representatives—in the proposal, development, and creation of laws. It encompasses social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self-determination...
That's how it'll work: The rangers take action, then get a call from SC to appear in front of his lordship, Rana Sana's cousin, and get punished for taking any action!
@Aysha M: Karachi is not in space, it is one of the city of Sindh. Our city is cosmopolitan and mini Pakistan, because we have open our arms since 1947 and all people come here to live and prosper. They are welcome to settle down but we condemn those who come to do terror activities or behave as if we were their subjects and Karachi is their colonized land mind set. Karachi is soul of Sindh and Jewel of Pakistan. Lets all live like family. Lets own Sindh and Pakistan.
@Khan: As per constitutions, PPP has majority and they have constitutional, moral, and legal power to rule Sindh. MQM is in opposition, they better do constructive opposition. Mandate to MQM from one city does not mean that they should be always in power, otherwise it is bad. Pls bro, understand the democratic system. And Opposition parties in Sindh including MQM, PMLF, PTI and PMLN should do constructive opposition and win next general election to make Govt in Sindh. However, no one should try to dislodge democratic Govt of PPP through negative tactics.
You want to bring peace in Karachi?
Go to the source of the problem. Go to every Pakistani's favorite British citizen!
Dear PM. Please remove the MQM Governor, appoint a PML-N Governor, and ask the army to train the Sindh Police, upgrade their guns, ammunition, vehicles and computers, and give them a free hand to catch the criminals. Kindly also ask the Judiciary to stop taking Suo Moto notices on everything that comes in the newspapers, and instead clear the backlog of criminal cases pending in the Sindh Courts so that criminals are actually sentenced. Then, watch and see how Karachi once again becomes the city of lights, a place of peace and beauty Inshallah.
The heavy mandate of Karachi is asking for army!! Democracy says give them what they ask for!!
@Ayesha M- MQM is not KHI- The people of karachi are KHI
The point of democratic government is: That it can call army. whenever. and whereever, whenever it wants, at place including peshawer and quetta!
Giving more powers to rangers ? And when they shoot someone, they are tried and tested and sent to prison. You've scared the Rangers so much that they would think 10 times before shooting anyone now. There goes "more power".
ET, I dont know what is so objectionable in my comments that ET is not putting it through
How would this work Mr. PM that you want to talk Karachi and not invite Karachi As per polls even the by-elections MQM is currently Karachi and if I may add MQM is Karachi and beyond for the last 3 decades. A serious lack of sincerity is evident, there is no real interest in solving the issues which ail Karachi
Governor Sindh is leaving and the PPP CM and PMLN Governor will lead the operation, what do I do of democracy ? where is my mandate being Karachiitte
Bring in Army.
