Child’s murder: Police claim resolving mystery

The accused has been living with Zulfiqar after her mother was sent to the jail.

RAWALPINDI: Police claimed to have solved the mystery of the death of a seven-year-old girl whose body was found in Gulzar-e-Quaid on August 27. According to the police, Sanam*, 10, a cousin of the victim, confessed to strangling Salma to death by the roadside while returning home from a local seminary. Sanam, the niece of Zulfiqar, told the police she acted at the instigation of her mother, who is being held in Adiala Jail for drug peddling. Sanam told the police that her mother was unhappy with Zulfiqar for not pursuing her case and said her mother had told her to choke her cousin. The accused had been living with Zulfiqar after her mother was sent to the jail. The police shifted the girl to the Women Police Station for further investigation. *Name changed to protect identity.
