Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) and Margalla police officials removed an illegal car bazaar in Sector G-9 on Sunday after receiving complaints of traffic jams and alleged fraud in the sale of vehicles from residents and buyers.
According to the police, sellers at the car market were regularly parking for-sale vehicles in front of houses and apartments in the locality, which was creating problems for residents. On Sundays, traffic jams had been observed near the bazaar as most of the parking spaces were taken up by the car market, police said.
Police said vehicles at the bazaar were mostly sold on “immediate basis” after brief interactions between sellers and buyers. This raised the chances of fraudulent transactions, according to the police, who had also received complaints of sale of stolen and tampered vehicles from some buyers.
Traffic Superintendent of Police (SP) Asmatullah Junejo said any car sellers who try to resume activity in the area will face strict action.
Junejo said the ITP’s main objective is to ensure smooth traffic flow in the federal capital and this task can only be achieved with the cooperation of citizens. The SP said people should inform the police if they are facing any difficulties in traffic flow because of commercial activities on roads or in areas adjacent to them.
