Dengue virus: 37 new cases in Karachi, Lahore

In total 906 dengue fever cases have been reported in Sindh since January 2013, says official.

LAHORE/ KARACHI: Some 27 more dengue viral fever cases were reported in Karachi, said Dengue Surveillance Cell Sindh on Saturday. Focal Person for Dengue Surveillance Cell Sindh Dr Shakeel Aamir Mullick said that a total of 906 dengue fever cases have been reported in Sindh province since January 2013, out of which 863 were reported in Karachi. Numbers of dengue affected continues to soar in Punjab as 10 new cases were confirmed in Lahore within the past 24 hours. Additional Director General of Vector-borne Diseases Dr Jaffar Ilyas said the number of confirmed dengue patients in Punjab has reached at 58. A Health Department spokesman said the surveillance system to detect larva of dengue-carrying mosquito was running successfully and that is why the number of dengue patient is much less than what it was in previous years.
