QUETTA: Unknown men hurled a hand grenade at the Quetta residence of Balochistan National Party chief Akhtar Mengal on Saturday evening, Express News reported.

There were no immediate reports of the damage caused by the grenade explosion.

However, Mengal said that the attack had failed in its purpose of frightening him.

“Should we condemn or congratulate the perpetrators,” the BNP chief joked before adding in a serious tone that “if through this cowardly attack they think that we will abandon our struggle, then they should remember that we entered politics with determination.”

“Not only will these attacks not deter us, and instead of throwing us off balance, they only make us surefooted.”

Mengal had earlier in the week taken oath as a member of the Balochistan Assembly, marking his return to mainstream politics and law making after a gap of almost 14 years.
