Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Punjab government to present a comprehensive operational plan to curb terrorism in the province, at the earliest.
Lifting the ban on all recruitments in law enforcement agencies, the prime minister said that a counterterrorism force should be raised immediately in Punjab to fight the menace efficiently.
He directed that recruitment process for the force must start within ten days. He was chairing a high level meeting to review the progress on the formation of Punjab Counter Terrorism Department.
“I have serious concerns regarding the capacity of civilian law enforcement agencies to detect and fight militancy,” Nawaz Sharif said.
The premier said that the federal government will assist the provincial government’s Counter Terrorism Force (CTF) in all possible ways including the provision of call data information. He asked for an enhanced coordination and harmony among all state agencies for achieving the desired objectives of uprooting terrorism.
The prime minister stressed that the training imparted to personnel of the CTF must match Army’s standards. Underlining the need for more vigilance and proactive approach by the government to fight terror, the premier asked for dedicating more resources for the cause.
He said that de-radicalisation must also be made a part of the comprehensive counter terrorism strategy.
The meeting was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Senior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and other senior officials.

@the Skunk: Walaikumsalam and Well put mate.
This force will also end up being a protocol team of VIP's like Elite force.
@Ajju Is it really so?
To folks who are complaining that NS only thinks about Punjab, must remember that he's instructed Punjab government to establish this force as Chief of PML-N, not PM of Pakistan (much the same way as Zardari continued meddled in affairs of Sindh, although he was the President of Pakistan). 18th Amendment forbids center to involve in provincial affairs too. So, if the haters can't come up with something solid, let them hate.
NS is following "THINK TANK'S" agenda.
Salam to all readers, CTF is a good step to save Punjab from the menace of terrorism. But PM must take concrete step to uproot terrorism from other provinces,of all kinds. Good Luck Pakistan
@John: well placed remark, piquant and thorny. Salams
Prime Minister of Punjab. Why not? Notwithstanding having provincial autonomy, our CMs cannot look beyond the length of their own noses and citizens get a slap on our faces by selecting an old man who cannot be taught new tricks. Salams
Shame on PM. Is he isthe PM of punjab only.No body cares about drone attacks on SW and NW nor karachi situation.
The other provinces should also make this kind of force and they can take help as God helps those who help themselves. Punjab will be happy to see other provinces making this kind of anti terrorism, force.
nawaz shareef means business !!! vigil,compitent anti-terror force + de-radicalization (curbing madarsas) = Peace :)
Pakistan doesn't only have one province mr. PM
I suppose KPK, Sindh & Balochistan are examples of peace and tranquility hence only Punjab is to be cleared of terrorism, or perhaps Pakistan now means Punjab only as far as the PML(N) is concerned.
PM Shareef forgot hes not just Punjab's Prime Minister but then who's surprised! Isn't Punjab the Key to Pakistan?
