KARACHI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is preparing for the worst, said its director-general, Syed Salman Shah. Nearly 3,000 villages and 500,000 people living in kutcha areas along Indus River have been affected in the recent floods, he said, in a statement issued on Friday. The decrease in rains in the northern areas has reduced the flow of water, which has made the flood situation under control, he said. He further claimed that emergency and complaint centres were now established in all districts where the district administrations are in touch with relevant officials of disaster management authority. He also said that food and medical facilities are being provided to flood affected people. The government is preparing plans and policies for controlling worst flood conditions in coming future, he added.
