A bomb exploded while another was defused outside the houses of police officials in separate incidents in Bannu on Friday.


Saddar police official Zafar Khan said two men on a motorcycle tossed a bomb outside the residence of Asghar Khan in Din Mohallah Nawab area at around 6.45am. The bomb exploded with a huge sound, partially destroying the structure. A search operation was launched, but no arrests were made till the filing of this report. Bomb disposal squad (BDS) in-charge Wasal Khan said three kilogrammes of explosives were connected to a remote-controlled device.


Separately, a bomb planted outside the house of a police official was defused by the BDS in Kotla Malagan area of Bannu.


Saddar police official Haroon Ali Shah said he was at home when his neighbour informed him of a suspicious sack placed near the boundary wall of his residence. Shah immediately called the police, who surrounded the area while the BDS defused the device which contained one kilogramme of explosives.
