Australia complete 5-2 rout of India
Australia seized the initiative by scoring a brace inside the first 10 minutes of the match through strikers Des Abbott and Trent Mitton. Indian forward Dharamvir Singh pulled a goal back for the hosts with a powerful drive in the 12th minute after a spectacular, mazy run on the left.
The second half saw Australia display top form, with Eddie Ockenden converting a penalty corner off a pass by captain Jamie Dwyer in the 48th minute. Liam de Young made it 4-1 six minutes later before Glenn Turner joined in on the goal-fest. India’s penalty-corner expert Sandeep Singh, however, gave the spectators something to cheer about when his drag-flick stuck the target at the final hooter as the World Champions completed the win.
Canada draw 1-1
Antoni Kindler was the star as Canada held favourites England to a thrilling 1-1 draw with the 22-year-old saving as many as nine penalty corners to frustrate the world number four side.
Canada took the lead in the 13th minute when striker Iain Smythe scored a goal after exploiting a gap in the England defence to go into the half time 1-0 up. England then came down hard on the Canadians in the second-half which saw forward Simon Mantell find the equaliser in the 50th minute.
