Sindh police’s deputy inspector-general for district South, Dr Ameer Sheikh, was the only official at the Supreme Court Karachi registry on Thursday who “surrendered himself” to the court by admitting “some” failure on his part in maintaining peace in Lyari.
He complained that transfers and postings of officers on ‘sifarish’ and criticism by the media demoralises the officers.
The bench hearing the Karach law and order case replied that the officers themselves were responsible because none of them had complained to the SC about being forced to obey illegal orders of their superiors. Former ambassador to the United Nations Hussain Haroon suggested that concerted efforts should be made by the law enforcing agencies and other departments to establish peace in city.
