ISLAMABAD:
Unidentified gunmen opened fire at Awami Muslim League (AML) President and MNA Sheikh Rasheed's car on Thursday near the Shakarpurian area, Express News reported.

"One bullet hit my car but I'm safe," said Rasheed, after the incident.

The firing took place when the AML President was returning from an interview at a TV channel in Islamabad.

"He is currently on his way to register an FIR at the Aabpara police station," reported Express News correspondent Qamarul Munawar.

A personal guard and a gunman was with Rasheed at the time of the firing.

The identity of the attackers could not be ascertained as the area is surrounded by trees and they easily fled, said Munawar.

Rasheed had won from the NA-55 constituency, Rawalpinidi 6 during the general elections by a sizable majority.
