Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Inspector General Police Prisons, Zakar Hussain Afridi visited DI Khan Central prison on Wednesday.
This was his first official visit since the July 29 jailbreak, in which the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan freed nearly 250 inmates, including some high-profile militants.
Afridi met some prisoners and asked them about problems they were facing. He also met the prison’s administration staff and inspected the facility’s security arrangements
While speaking to journalists, he said authorities have started working on installing jammers and hidden cameras in the prison. “Steps are being taken to prevent the use of drugs and mobile phones inside the jail. All internal affairs are being strictly monitored.”
Afridi said besides providing basic facilities, modern weapons will also be given to staff in prisons across the province in order to ensure an event like the DI Khan jailbreak does not occur again.
DI Khan Central Prison Superintendent Banyamen Khan Mian Khel was also present during Afridi’s visit.
