Roots International School (RIS) IGCSE-I student Alina Aftab’s talents are not just limited to the classroom.

Alina participated in the Third Syed Tajamal Abbas National Ranking Tennis Championship 2013, which took place this month. Her success in the tournament, where she reached the finals, has catapulted her to number three in Pakistan.

The 12-year-old Alina and her 10-year-old sister Mahin Aftab have recently returned from Barcelona, Spain having received training under the world’s best coaches, Chile’s Colin Padro, and Spain’s Juan Carlos Baguena being among them.

Both sisters are being groomed by former national champion Zulfiqar Rahim at the Pakistan Tennis Complex.

Both aspire to become professional, which their three-hour daily practice sessions demonstrate.

The players were awarded trophies at the event, held every year to pay tribute to Sargodha Commissioner Tajamal Abbas.
