HARIPUR:

A criminal case was registered against Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) MPA from Haripur, Goher Nawaz Khan, and over a dozen others for their alleged involvement in an attack on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Advocate Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan.

Police quoted Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, the younger brother of slain Haripur nazim Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, saying he was en route to his house in Khalabat Township when a dumper truck coming from the opposite direction deliberately rammed into his car on Monday evening.

After the collision, Goher Nawaz Khan’s brother Saeed Khan and seven others allegedly fired a rocket at Zulfiqar’s vehicle followed by heavy gunfire.

The attack claimed the lives of two persons and injured Zulfiqar, his bodyguard constable Ashraf and two passers-by, Attaur Rehman and Babar.

Goher Nawaz Khan’s father Goher Rehman and six others were also accused of involvement in the attack.

Khalabat Township has registered a case against the accused under multiple sections of the Explosive Act of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). However, no arrests have been made so far.

The two families are said to be engaged in a feud following the general elections of 2008. The dispute has already reportedly claimed the lives of former provincial minister Akhter Nawaz Khan, former Haripur tehsil nazim Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, private secretary of PML-N’s chief Sher Azam Khan and over a dozen others.
