Tennis: Khurram upsets Rafiq to progress

Khurram will now join top-seed Aqeel Khan in the second round.

Unseeded player Faizan Khurram caused a major upset at the inaugural Eastern Testing Services PTF Ranking Tennis Championship 2013 when he defeated fifth-seed Usman Rafiq 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the men’s singles event in Islamabad yesterday.


Khurram will now join top-seed Aqeel Khan in the second round. Aqeel defeated Imran Shaukat 6-4, 6-1 in his opening match while Ahmed Chaudhry outclassed Syed Nofil Kaleem 6-0, 6-4. Arham Atiq overcame Zain Nawab 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 and Mudassir Murtaza outplayed Imad Amer 6-3, 6-3 as second-seed Yasir Khan defeated Raja Shahid 6-2, 6-1 in the first round match.
